Tough Day To Be In Law Enforcement

The skateboard man, Anthony Huber, had just witnessed the shooter blow a guy’s brains out with his rifle. Huber, and others, gave chase, as the gunman fled, with one or more of the pursuers yelling “that guy just shot somebody”, repeatedly. (Not sure those are 100% the exact words as they pursued him). Huber had every right to attempt to detain/ disarm the man he just witnessed kill someone. Is somebody going to actually try to tell me that the guy who just blew someone’s brains out, then has the right to murder the guy trying to disarm him?! Is someone going to argue that a murderer trying to escape his pursuers is exercising “fair play” by killing one of his pursuers because that pursuer hit him with a skateboard?

I don’t regard myself as holier than thou, and I have no idea if I would have the courage to pursue someone with a semiautomatic, but I know I must live in a different moral universe than someone trying to argue the above points. The Republicans have long since been smitten by Ayn Rand. If that’s the direction we’re going, let me off at the next planet.

I see the police Chief said nobody dies if people were not breaking the curfew. I guess that does not apply to the killer, and I guess it’s OK for some officers in his department to tell armed vigilantes that they are “appreciated”.

I believe situations like Wisconsin will help Trump more than Biden. I believe Trump and Barr plan an October surprise. And for certain Trump will try to steal the election. So I hope we can calm down soon, because law and order is all about marshaling FEAR, and that play’s right into Trump’s hand, IMO.

After five young Black people allegedly stole about $5,000 of clothing, sped away from police and then crashed into a teenage driver in 2018, Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth had a harsh message. Although no one was seriously injured, the maximum sentences the suspects could face were not long enough for the sheriff, the Kenosha News reported.

“These people have to be warehoused,” Beth, who is White, said at a news conference. The three men involved in the crime should be removed from society so that they could not father children, he suggested, adding that all five suspects, whose ages ranged from 16 to 23, should go to prison for life.

“We put them away for the rest of their lives so the rest of us can be better,” Beth said.

Although Beth swiftly apologized, his inflammatory comments resurfaced Thursday as the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin called for his resignation. The group also charged that his officers offered support to armed militias at a Tuesday protest in Kenosha, before a 17-year-old allegedly shot and killed two protesters.

“Sheriff David Beth’s deputies not only fraternized with white supremacist counterprotesters on Tuesday, but allowed the shooter to leave as people yelled that he was the shooter,” the ACLU said in a statement calling for his resignation on Thursday. “Sheriff Beth was also criticized last year after calling for five people of color who had been arrested for shoplifting to be put into warehouses.”

Disgusting.

It's kinda funny how all these areas that have had recent riots, have a long history of racist police. Ferguson, Minneapolis, Seattle, and now Kenosha. It's almost like people are rioting not just for the immediate injustice, but for years of injustice. I'm sure the right wingers on here and elsewhere will still find ways to defend David Beth and blame the victims. But it's becoming quite clear that major changes are coming to law enforcement. Police aren't going to stop murdering blacks until major police reforms and changes to our system have been enacted.

The guy that got his brains blown out was being aggressive and taunting and started chasing the kid while throwing a motolov cocktail. He didn't just get his brains blow out.

All involved were dumbasses up to no good. It's interesting that all three victims were felons.

Anyone questioning the Black Lives Matter movement should try to explain what happened in Kenosha. A black man was shot 7 times. The justification was he might have been going to get a weapon in his car. Meanwhile, a white 'man' shoots and kills multiple people, has an assault rifle in his hands, and the police don't even stop him. Who posed the bigger threat? The police saw the black guy as the threat. He had reportedly just tried to break up a fight. The white guy? All he did was kill a couple of protesters. If you are okay with that I recommend you check your morals.
This is our justice system.
We need to be part of the change. Better policing benefits us all anyway.

For all the people in this thread, not just you, who bring up criminal records, there's a thing you should all look into called "preschool to prison pipeline" and "modern day jim crow."

There is essentially a built-in process in poor black neighborhoods for getting young black men criminal records, beginning with involving police in minor issues with children down into the preschool ages. It doesn't happen in affluent neighborhoods but absolutely does happen in poor black neighborhoods.

I'd also highly recommend SERIAL podcast season 3.

Anyway, I DO NOT find it informative that the people had felony records. That means next to nothing to me.

I only bring it up because I've read multiple things that skew what really happened. Like you, I believe the kid definitely had a hard on to shoot somebody. I think he murdered them and it's another thing to add to the long list of why I hate guns. Just painting a clearer picture from my perspective after watching the video. People's history and criminal history is just something to give more perspective and more information rather than a headline.

Anyway, I've seen things say stuff like shooter who killed or shot into the crowd or like what Red said that the guy saw him shoot the guy in the head and was trying to get him. (I believe that's a simple way of saying it but there's more to it and missing key pieces too.) You can literally watch the entire thing and at least, to me, it shows a lot of people making really bad decisions. Being out past curfew just put them all in dangerous situations and they were all looking for it. None of them come across as your typical dude who tries to not break the law.

From what I've read, the kid has a good chance walking from the murder charges cause it was self defense. The guy with the gun who had his arm shot said his only regret was not unloading his pistol on the kid. The kid was running away from his attackers in both shootings too.

The thing is, I know if I say this this is gonna piss someone off. Why? Because I condemn both sides and think the people shot were morons who gave the kid a justified reason (in his mind and that's all that mattered to him) to shoot them.

I hate seeing things like this. It literally made me feel sick watching the video. On paper people are fighting for a good cause but when I watch videos like that it clearly shows that they don't know what they're fighting for and are looking for a reason to cause havoc and rebel.

All of the victims were white, btw.
