What's new

My hot take on what I'd do in the off-season.

First thing I do - I offer Mitchell 5max. If he doesn't accept, ask him if he would accept any other offer and if he wants something like a 3 year deal I sign him to it and immediately start listening to trade offers for him(not actively searching for trades, but actively listening).

Second thing I do - figure out what the max would be that I would like to pay Gobert and offer something in that range to him. If he doesn't accept, immediately begin search for trade partner.

If none of them want to stay for what I offer them, start selling off the whole team. Ingles, Bogdanovic, Conley... all of them ... rebuild.

If Mitchell takes the 5max but Rudy doesn't take what I offer, trade Rudy either for high draft picks or win now pieces in the timeline of Mitchel. If we trade Rudy, I might actually do Conley for Horford. Or take Favors back. Or look for a trade for Gobert that includes a young-ish center in the timeline of Mitchell(Turner? Allen? Wendel Carter?)

If Rudy takes whatever offer we make but Mitchell doesn't - keep the team with hope for one more run next year... while listening to the market for Mitchell... If you love an offer take it and try to retool around Gobert for as long as we can be competitive... then... rebuild...

If both want to stay and seem like they want to work together, keep them and try to retool around them... find a longer and/or more athletic wing.
Great post. I agree with it all.

After what we do what @stitches post said figuring out Don and Rudy, I think we need to make a decision of Conley OR Clarkson. Choose one as the catalyst for the 2nd unit.

If we commit to Conley, go in knowing that the goal is to re-sign him after next year to a less than MLE type deal.

If we commit to Clarkson, move Conley in the offseason. Makes no sense to me to pay $45+ million on Conley and Clarkson next year. Their contributions and limitations are too similar to pay that kind of money for both when we need defenders and bigs.

Does Conley even have any value at this point?
Yes. He is a great leader. He can still be good as a team's 4th or 5th best player in the right system. His expiring could be very attractive for a few teams looking to dump a longer deal.

I think Detroit is a perfect fit. He could support Blake and Wood while Kennard spreads the floor and Doumbouya develops. Conley and Rose could share PG duties. Play different roles.

I'd be more interested in Griffin than Love.

And I get it he's the bench scorer, but damn does Clarkson need to buy into the team game just a bit more.

We should look at big changes but we won't. One thing that I have learned is DL would rather try and drive something into the ground and be right than make changes and admit he was off. He couldn't even handle Mike being moved to the bench.

We will run it back and make changes around the edges of the roster.

With Johnny Bryant leaving I'd like to see if we could coax Igor back. We should keep some of the g league guys. We will look to move Ed and address backup 5... outside of that we will do nuthin.

Basically hope we pull another good late pick out of our *** otherwise this is kind of our ceiling.

I need to wait a week before I give my flaming hot takes... they are too fiery right now.

Authentic and genuine.

Proud of Donovan. Proud of being a Jazzfan.

Great interview. Thanks for sharing.

The highlights (1:30-2:00) really just twisted the knife in me even more. There are two or three shots he hits in those highlights that would have been AND1's for any other guy in the league of his calibur. Flat out, the refs treated him like a a 2nd rate, recently called up GLeague player last night. He didn't get calls that he would have gotten in the other 6 games yet they called him on some weak stuff in the first half that made him sit out for a long period. That's unacceptable. If I'm the Jazz staff, I'm sending tape to the league office to voice concerns. We lost 4 games, and 3 of those were led by the same crew chief?

Overall, we have to be very proud of Donovan. He just scored the most points in the history of the first round of the NBA playoffs. He had an incredible series. I'm so glad he plays for our Jazz.
