Lockout!!!

Huh? For one thing he only made a small amount playing professionally in Europe so I think he might want to make some money this year even if only around 1-2 million. He just finished getting decent minutes on the national team as a 19 year old. You are telling me some Turkish team or other European team would not sign him?

But if he went over there would he actually get some playing time?

I think any team in Turkey would try to screw him, absolutely (not providing a buyout clause at least for the upcoming season and lock him up).

Outside of that, the opportunities to play in Europe for anything resembling good money (~1 million) are drying up fast.

My primary point, however, is that if he wanted to develop in Europe (more), then he could've (and should've). I'm pretty sure I've even heard him say that playing professionally in Europe wasn't an option he was considering. After he was ruled ineligible, he could've hopped a flight back over the Atlantic and played in a uniform with logos all over it if he wanted to, but he obviously didn't. Why would that change now?

Just depends on who he signed with. If it was one of the better deep pocketed teams with lots of vets, probably not much. But if he went to one of the lesser teams he could get some pt.

Agreed. It has been made clear by his decisions that he wants to play in the NBA and if he were to go overseas then he would only accept a deal with an opt out clause.

God willing yes! He could probably play in China as well, but the Chinese federation says to sign there he would have to play the whole year before he could come back. So lets hope he does not go there. A few NBAers already have though.

Looks like they're working through the weekend.

Highlights of proposed changes:

The "Larry Bird exception," which allows teams to exceed the cap to retain their own free agents regardless of their other committed salaries, is limited to one player per team per season.

• The mid-level exception, which the league valued at $7.4 million last season and could be extended by as many as five years, is reduced in length and size.

• The current luxury tax, the $1-for-$1 penalty a team must pay to the league for the amount it exceeds the salary cap, is to be severely increased.

In last week's negotiating session, the owners proposed that the players' share of basketball-related income, or BRI, be sliced from 57 percent to 46 percent, and a source told Broussard that the players were offered 48 percent of BRI on Tuesday.

The owners also want a 5 percent reduction on all existing salaries for this season, a 7.5 percent reduction of all 2012-13 salaries and 10 percent reduction of 2013-14 salaries, a source said.

....these player proposals scare me! The owners may actually buy into them and we may have an end to the lockout! That would mean pathetic NBA basketball WAY sooner than I want to see it! Bummer.

I agree. Another year of players egos taking control and dictating what they want to do. They make more money then any other athlete out there.

Agreed x2. Maybe they will think twice before taking out loans to ink their whole body with jailhouse symbols!

With exception to baseball. And they also play more games than any other sport that's not baseball.

Math is the craziest thing.

I hope this gets done. This lockout obviously hurts a lot of contenders. But it also hurts the Jazz ability to develop guys.

I agree, I'm excited to see the Jazz play with all the new guys. They probably won't make the playoffs, but still, it'll be a bummer if basketball is gone.

Those were the owners conditions not the players. It is probably the best deal the players will get though, if they still want to play hardball I will be blaming them for the lost season.

...actually, the players came down below 50%. Didn't think they'd ever agree to that.

I'd guess they also play in the sport with the highest per player revenue.

NFL teams carry 53 players and play 16 games.

MLB teams carry 25 players, plus loads of minor league players, and play 162 games.

NHL teams carry around 20 players, plus loads of minor league players, and play 82 games.

NBA teams carry at most 15 players and play 82 games.

NFL is king because contracts aren't guaranteed. Take away guaranteed contracts and the NBA product increases dramatically in quality.
