Just a heads up so you don't forget. I'm interested to see if they can still make it very entertaining or if they've exhausted all of their options.

I just started watching Dexter from the beginning. It's been a hard season for me to stay interested in. I've watched 4 episodes of season 1. Please tell me it gets better.

Dexter is a show where I often wonder why I watch it. But then they have Season 4 and I understand.

The last season of Dexter sucked IMO. But hey, maybe this will be a better season. I just wasn't a fan of Julia Stiles. Never have been.

Dexter and Breaking Bad are very similar shows...and two of my favorite!

I hope they kill off dexters sister though, shes unbearable to watch

I had that feeling trying to watching the earlier seasons. I started at Season 4 which got me hooked, everyone episode was solid.
Season 5 was good, not great IMO. interested to see what they do now.

Agree completely. I'm was really disappointed that she made it through the entire season. I kept hoping she'd get wacked in the worst way. I can't stand her face. Her stupid, stupid face. I hope somebody lost their job over that casting.

If you don't like Julia Stiles, and you want to watch a very bizarre movie, check out Edmond. Seriously creepy.

Dexter kind of lost it last season. Season 4 was some of the best TV I have ever watched, other than the writers having ZERO clue how to write parts for children (which means they did a good job writing them out...sorry, minor spoiler).

For me they go like this:

Season 1 - ok, I accepted they were getting into the series and the premise was enough to carry the season
Season 2 - worse than 1 IMO, but some episodes were gripping. Enough to keep me interested.
Season 3 - picking up steam. Some well-known actors start joining the group and it gets very tense.
Season 4 - great. Best season of the series. I can watch it over and over.
Season 5 - disjointed garbage. Plot lines come and go like drunken one-night stands when you wake up to find out she is 400 lbs and has a beard. Worst last episode of a season I think I have ever seen.
Season 6 - ? who knows. I have hopes they can get back to something solid to watch. I think there is a lot to do in the world they have created but the writers seem to have lost their edge. Will watch for now.

I watch Dexter, have seen every episode, and look forward to it. But it's a delicious treat. That's it imo. It's not particularly "great television" as some have thrown out there. IMO of course.

I agree with that. On the whole the series would not qualify as great at all, but it is fun, the premise is great, and occasionally the realization dawning that you are rooting for a serial killer as the "good guy" makes things weird and cool at the same time. I do think season 4 was great, but as you said, imo.

The Thanksgiving episode in Season 4 was as good an individual episode as there has ever been in a drama series.*

*- imo

SPOILER ALERT

DO NOT READ IF YOU'VE YET TO SEE FIRST EPISODE THIS YEAR

So what did you guys think? It was okay. Nothing special. It kept me interested and I'll continue to watch but yeah, whatever. Not much to add here. I like Edward James Olmos. Great actor. Colin Hanks though. Meh. Whatever. Though he seemed solid enough. I feel like these two clowns work for the school/church he's trying to enroll his son in. Or maybe it's just coincidence.

this new Dexter season doesn't seem like it is going to be good...I really think they need an endpoint or have him locate to a new city.

I watched it last night and I was entertained. I love how they develop his character or try so each season. It made me laugh hard when he was dancing at his high school reunion. I agree with Punkrocker that if they moved him to a new city, he would have a lot more going for him and the show.

Any new thoughts a good chunk into the season?

I think it has been far better than last season, althought still not as sharp and taught as season 4. Lithgow really just set that season apart. Interesting nod to season 4 in the last episode, I thought. I also enjoyed the juxtaposition of his dad and brother.

I think this season has promise. The professor is sufficiently creepy and scary. A couple other minor plot lines thrown in. So far, I have been enjoying it.

I agree though that at some point Miami has got to be tapped out. From Dexter alone they must have 10 times the missing people of any other large metro area. And he keeps making many of the same mistakes (like where he keeps his trophies).

Any guesses how they will end the series?
