2020 Presidential Debates

One of the most messy, chaotic spectacles I've ever seen. Probably a wash, I guess. I'm not sure it changed many people's opinions.

Trump was throwing his weight around and asserting his view very aggressively. He was needling and heckling at Joe. You could interpret that as a powerful expression of his convictions or just plain annoying. Joe then got down in the mud and started interrupting as well.

Biden was strong at the beginning talking about Trump's handling of covid, but he didn't offer anything concrete as an alternative recourse.

Trump was strongest on law & order, calling out Antifa and asking Joe to name one police organization that endorsed him. Joe took the Jerry Nadler position and said that Antifa doesn't really exist, and he said that "we don't have time" for him to talk about police who support him.

Trump also did well in making a case for keeping the cities open rather than locking them down for covid. I think this is actually a bigger issue in the election than a lot of pundits are saying. A lot of people are not happy with the lockdowns, they're tired of them, and a lot of people might express that with their vote.

Biden proved he’s the adult in the room. He showed great patience and composure. When he was allowed to speak for longer than 10 seconds without being interrupted, he was interesting and coherent. I loved when he looked into the camera and spoke to the oublic as trump ranted.

Trump spent the night throwing his own feces all over the place.

Trump is behind. He needed to win over voters tonight? Who did he win over tonight by yelling over Biden, arguing with Wallace, and asking the proud boys to “stand by?”

I think Biden solidified his lead tonight. Trump showed voters once again that he’s unhinged and out of control. He has no ideas. Nothing to offer other than abusing our norms and killing off more Americans.

You know trump got his *** kicked when even his trumpiest followers aren’t calling this a win.

No one learned anything new here. Trump's best moment probably asking Biden to name one law enforcement organization that supported him (he had nothing). Biden looked ok I thought, but he was likely on adderall so the man we saw tonight wouldn't be the same one running the country.

Trump wouldn't condemn white supremacists and told the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by." According to the FBI, the Proud Boys are an “extremist group with ties to white nationalism.” The FBI has also stated since the early 2000s that right wing extremist groups are our most serious domestic terrorism threat.

Per FBI director Christopher Wray
We’re particularly focused on domestic terrorism, especially racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists,” said Wray. “Not only is the terror threat diverse, it’s unrelenting.

Trump disagreed
The day after 50 people were shot and killed in the New Zealand mosque terror attack, where the suspect left behind a racist manifesto, Trump said he didn’t see white nationalism as a growing threat.

“I don’t really,” Trump told a reporter in the Oval Office on March 15. “I think it’s a small group of people that have very, very serious problems, I guess.”

The Proud Boys are quite excited about the President's ringing endorsement

Then Trump told his people to "go into the polls and watch very carefully." He already had supporters in Virginia intimidating voters (a felony btw) and is encouraging it even more.
