What's new

The off-season strategies (Jazz have limited options)

God, I'm so disappointed with the damn Jazz this year. This year was our year with Conley and Bojan but it didn't happen. Next year, the Warriors are back and the hated Lakers there too. We folded too early and the NBA got woke.

I listen to the Rights to Ricky Sanchez Podcast (a sixers podcast...kind of) because those guys are pretty funny and they honestly are sixers fans who hate the sixers more than we do... so its kinda fun. Anywell... those guys are always saying they need someone that can dribble and create a reliable shot. They mentioned "even like Jordan Clarkson" and its kinda been rattling around in my head... would we do a sign and trade sending out JC and getting back Josh Richardson (a guy the RTRS guys always say is good but not a great fit with the roster).

I really like JC but wonder if you can't get maximum value by bring Mike off the bench in that bench scorer role. I think Mike could do it while distributing a little, but not on as much scoring volume as JC. Richardson adds a solid perimeter defender... streaky shooter and can create a little. IDK, just throwing something else against the wall.

I get the feeling that JC really exceeded DL's expectations with regard to fit and production... just kinda something I sensed in his after season interviews. Not sure he got him thinking they'd keep him... thought maybe he'd help but the expiring contract was pretty appealing.

If you can trade JC for Josh Richardson you absolutely do it. A JC type scoring only sixth man is not hard to find. We have two on this team already, that is Bojan and Conley. We need a starter who can contribute and make plays without ever touching the basketball to reinforce Rudy

Sign Donovan to his max extension.

Re-sign Jordan Clarkson.

Re-sign Juwan Morgan.

Let Emmanuel Mudiay walk.

Trade Ed Davis to just get off that 5 mill.

Draft a wing like Elijah Hughes or Jaden McDaniels.

Split the MLE on wing sized players with positional versatility. Or use the MLE on one and the BAE on another. Shaq Harrison is a guy I'd like the Jazz to target.

And then we look great next year.

K? Bye.

I think you can find that bench sparkplug but I do think JC is really damn good at it. The volume he scores would be hard to replace.

I just think if 3 of your top 7 guys are DM, Mike, and JC that makes for some clunky lineups that lack defense/length. If Mike from post AS break shows up then he provides that bench punch. Maybe invest a pick in Tyrell Terry to provide it later... I also like Jordan Mclaughlin in Minny if you can steal him. It isn't impossible to find but JC is at the tops of the league at it.

Philly actually can't do a sign and trade (most likely). Doing so would hard cap them and they are likely over the apron already... they kinda screwed.

So JC for Josh Richardson is a no go for them.

The biggest question to me is do we shakeup something with our top 7 guys? If not we basically have 15-18 minutes for a wing/PF and 12-14 minutes for a backup center. Not sure we can get the impact we need with that small of a change.

I really think we are headed for an offseason where we retain JC, sign a guy like Bazemore to the BAE, use our 1st round pick, sign a backup center at the minimum (Ian Mahimi, Meyers Leonard, John Henson, biyombo, Len) and see if TB outplays them. We will cut a few guys and have some window dressing... but I think it will very small.

I think unfortunately you are absolutely right. If the jazz really want to try for a championship they are going to need to rethink their core. If not it will be a bumpy four years in and out of the first and second round and playing at the bottom of the playoff pack.

If they want a championship they will need to trade that over paid washed up Conley

I doubt the Jazz resign JC. It's just something in my gut that tells me he is going for the payday and probably the Jazz get outbid. I would love to eat crow on this but the bat signal went off. Kind of like Haywood.

Unless you can get a good PF/C, which would mean You could play them 30-ish minutes.

I’m still dreaming of Wood.

I have a hard time finding a team that will go higher than MLE. We should be willing to give him a touch more than that.

haywood actually took less dough to get out of town

I just don’t know how it happens. Would require some out of the box GM-ing and we really ain’t with that.
