Oh right. You must be one of those socially liberal and fiscally conservative people who still haven't figured out that cutting programs causes the very societal ills you'd like to get rid of. Like addiction, homelessness, or poverty. If only there was a party that could magically both cut your taxes and help everyone, right?
No, I have personal experience with inefficient government overspend in Federal government with very little accountability. We can spend smarter, to invest in our people.
I spent years in Germany, and appreciate the programs they have to avoid homelessness and poverty, but think they go a bit too far. I personally have worked with some Germans that work and make a lot less than they could because of tax rates. There is a happy medium.
Throwing money at our oppressed/other societal issues without a plan to fix these issues amplifies the problem, and can encourage people to accept the status quo. I think we should spend to invest in our population, and have a safety net to protect others who truly need it. We need to invest in schools, incentivize parents to get kids in school and get more schooling themselves, and ensure our poor populations have access to quality education. If this creates a better standard of living, it will also increase the tax base. We can do this, spend more efficiently now, and invest in our future.
We have too many pet projects and programs that do nothing to improve our populous or increase standards of living for all without long-term inefficient tax burdens.
