[Woj] Donovan Mitchell signs 5/195M max designated rookie extension with the Jazz

So you are saying the jazz were the last bastion of hope the owners had against players deciding when they leave a team?

Um....ok.
I’m saying there was a solid precedent that the Jazz just gave up despite having all the leverage. There is no good reason they should have given in on a PO. None. Jamal Murray, Jokic, Ben Simmons contracts all took a few days/weeks to sign because they wanted a PO. Those front office did not blink and made sure there was not a PO. It’s inexcusable.

To conclude:

-Jazz gave a 5 year contract at 25% max cap money,
-gave the eligibility for Donovan to get up to 30% of the cap money if he makes All NBA teams.
-Gave the contract a year earlier for his security not to get injured this last season of his rookie deal and lock in his giant pay day
-gave up a player option which no team had ever done prior because of the top 3 things

The player option+30% eligibility for a 6'1" guard is indefensible by the front office. You give up the PO or the 30% you do not give up both. You are already giving it to him a year before you had to. Oh and by the way, in doing so with Conley's deal coming off next season, you also gave up cap space by giving it to him early, which is gonna be really really important going forward.

Nothing about this deal is beneficial to the Jazz, and Donovan was not walking away form a potential $195 MILLION over a ****ING PLAYER OPTION. What a way to ruin what should have been a great thing by both sides of this negotiation.

Yeah bro I feel like you’re mad about something else but this is your release valve rn. I’ll let you sleep on this and still see if you feeling angry after you get a good nights rest, some food, and Donovan takes us to the WCF.

Donovan locked up for 6 is far more beneficial to the Jazz when they were the ones with the ****ing leverage.
Just admit you were wrong. You said he wouldn't sign for the maximum years. You said he would leave as quickly as possible.

Just admit it.

I wasn’t wrong, he didn’t. He got as much guaranteed money as possible, every incentive possible, and signed a 4 year contract, not 5.

Yup, so now when he says "trade me to the Knicks" in 2 or 3 years you'll have to trade him there or pay the fee to trade him anywhere else. They literally gave him everything on this contract and still didn't get rid of the player option. As a fan you should hate how horrible the Jazz negotiated this deal.

I'm really happy for Donovan and the Jazz, ---- so US the Fanzzz. I remember him when he came here after Gordon Coward leave us with smile and nothing.
Donovan was committed from the day one. Now is the day to celebrate, we have got a star to build a team around.

The other subject is the trend that NBA STARS when things don't go their way just want a trade. Look many now and in the past. They should give back money back for not finish the business. Hope that Donovan will be fair to US and won't leave for NY or others after two years when we won't be winning.
His contract has a trade kicker in it which shows you his commit to finishing the contract.

i look at the trade kicker differently. it makes him harder to trade because teams do not want to pay the extra 15 percent. Is that how it works? If Donovan wants out he would have to waive the kicker most likely to make a deal work. I believe Anthony Davis had one and only waved it so he could sign with Lakers.
