What's new

John Cleese

The guy is in his 80's. Mostly does voiceovers for animated stuff at this point. That's the life I would live if I were him.

Of course I’m a Python fan but the guy hasn’t been relevant since A Fish Called Wanda 30 years ago and even then, he wasn’t some great part to the film.

Also, Fawlty Towers is my favorite Cleese.

Dude, he *wrote* A Fish Called Wanda. I'd say that was a pretty important part to the film. Fawlty Towers was great too, of course!

He's 80 years old. If you want to say "He hasn't done much relevant acting since Shrek 2," that's fine. If you want to say, "I disagree with many of his political opinions," that's fine. But to say he's not a celebrity is frankly just kind of dumb.

Well, duh. Paul McCartney hasn't put out an album worth listening to since the 1970s, but that doesn't mean he's not a celebrity.

Did you miss the part where I basically said I said it in jest? Holy ****, you guys are hysterical.

The Beatles comparison is very apt actually. Monty Python were the Beatles of sketch comedy, both in terms of influence and popularity. John Lennon himself said he'd have rather been a Python than a Beatle.
Yeah, McCartney is particularly apt, as well. Terry Gilliam would be Lennon, probably, what with his directing and such. Terry Jones was George Harrison, leaving poor Ringo to pick up Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, and Michael Palin.
