What's new

Who's getting bought out this year?

So I thought about posting this for a week or two and based off his recent progression, I think it’s time. I wonder if Aminu could be had. He hadn’t played in a long, long time but has started getting again with 18 minutes last game in which he got 3 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals. We still have a good three or four months til the playoffs. By then he could improve a ton too so far as his conditioning and overall health. If completely healthy, the dude is sort of exactly what we could use right now and don’t have.

I just doubt he’d be willing to leave that much money on the table. But this is someone I’d be very very interested in pursuing.

I'd be ecstatic if he got bought out. Has another year left on his deal so probably not, but he'd be great.

How does that work? Lindsey can’t call Aminu’s agent to see if he’d be interested in being bought and go to the Jazz/a contender, can he? I assume that’s tampering and that Aminu and his agent would just have to initiate such talks with the Magic.

Yeah. I can’t recall the last time someone got bought out to join another team when they had another year in their deal left.

Some of these rumored players are still very good
Why would teams want to get rid of them to save minimal money

Yeah, but we’re clearly not signing him.
I have bad news for everyone... I got in a time machine and saw the future... couple excerpts from the DL presser after the buyout and trade deadline.

"we were very aggressive in looking at different trades and took a few phone calls but we really like our guys and nothing great shook out."
"we were very aggressive in looking at buyout guys but didn't find a match out in the market"

We will not make a trade or pickup anyone. The only move I could see out there is us ducking the tax somehow but I'm not even sure its possible. I want to make it clear... I don't think this is the wrong approach. It is going to be tough to find something better on a minimum than what Niang, Oni, Morgan, or Shaq could bring. We should kick the tires on anything interesting... if Griffin or Love buyout were to happen (their teams would be dumb to do it) then sure lets look at that. If Houston couldn't find a deal for PJ Tucker then go for it. Ariza? I'd have to see if he's in shape.

Would you rather see that scenario play out or, if RHJ signs somewhere and does well, the inevitable “yeah he was really high in the Jazz radar and they really wanted to get him but ____, and yeah, totally, they totally saw this because they’re good.”

I would rather the aggressive thing. The whole “the Jazz were very high on player x” even though they passed over him like 3 times and likely could have bought a pick or moved to arrange to take player X” thing is annoying as hell. I will accept it only if they start bringing up busts that they were really high on too... “Jazz loved Poku and thought he’d be good right away” type of report needs to come out.
