HCA only comes into play if a series goes 7 games. The Jazz didn't play any Game 7's in either of their Finals runs. Maybe they would've beaten Seattle in 1996, I don't know. But those are rare occurrences. Like, can you think of any series in recent history where your opinion is - "The inferior team won this series because they got to play Game 7 at home"?

The largest benefit of a high seed isn't HCA, it's that you generally have an easier overall path to the Finals.

When you have the higher seed you start at home for the first two games. That's massive. Going up 2-0 in a series is a BFD.

When you have the #1 seed you begin the playoffs by playing what is typically the worst playoff team in your conference, which is massive. It means you're more likely to end that series early and wait at home for the other team so that you can start the second round at home too.

When you're the #1 seed you play the second round against the 4-5 seed instead of the 2 or 3 seed (most likely) which usually means you're playing a weaker team. Massive.

Both years the Jazz finished with the #1 seed they went to the finals...

That is the problem. Watch what the teams the Jazz have problems with do on D. They guard against the teams's strengths. Outside of Clarkson and Mitchell, we have no penetration game. And Clarkson oftens wears blinders and won't pass/clogs the offense. Bogey is turnover prone and inconsistent, Ingles can get himself open for jumpers, O'neale can only score when wide open or at the cup...

Teams that negate Gobert's screen (happening more and more due to better anticipation, bringing Rudy farther out, etc., and dont have help hedge off our 3 pt shooters, and don't leave Rudy for oops leaves us exposed, more so without DM.

Yeah my only disagreement was that they were hugging the shooters... we got off a lot of threes... I think they all loaded up the paint and then jumped the passing lanes.

The teams that give us issues are the teams with good switchy wings. They switch and we don’t have a big counter other than the ball handler beating his guy one on one. Rudy can’t post up and didn’t punish the team on the glass for switching smaller guys on him.

The ****** thing is there is a recipe to beat us on offense and defense and it’s a recipe that many of the top tier teams can duplicate.

I love when we get our *** beat and the narrative is we didn’t care that much and no one is worried... if that is the case why we playing guys such heavy minutes... we seriously that confident that we can manipulate the standings to our liking with 10 games left and a world of unpredictability in the Covid season. GTFO... we are the team that pays a premium to backup our player on a max deal and also drafts a player at the same position... we like safety nets for our safety nets. Our ****ing coach doesn’t sub guys out up 30 until like 3 minutes left and refuses to use challenges because it costs a timeout. Good grief.

And we have zero safety nets for Joe, the most unique player on the team. ZERO. When he is cooking the Jazz are unstoppable, but when he is cooked the Jazz drop a tier or two.

This is flawed, for multiple reasons.

To name a few:

- It doesn't take into consideration that Mitchell is out (therefore giving us a high probability of winning at Phoenix on Friday when it's actually pretty low).
- Similarly, it doesn't take into account that the Clippers will be without several key players at Phoenix on Wednesday.
- It doesn't take into account that the Suns final two games (both @ Spurs) will likely be against a Spurs team that'll be resting their starters for the upcoming play-in.
