NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

This is a quote from former player Etan Thomas from the articl. Basically singles out utah as much worse than most. It’s pretty unsettling.

"I can recall countless road trips looking around the arena in Salt Lake City and being shocked by the faces of hate glaring back from the crowd. Every away building is a hostile environment with passionate fans rooting for the home team and sometimes crossing the line. But in Utah, it’s different. There are abundantly clear racial undertones to the heckling that seem to hover in the arena."

I don’t go to many games, maybe two or three a year in the nose bleed section, but is it really that bad here?
I have never thought it was a problem.

I do wonder if a black athlete hearing and seeing a black fan yelling "you suck" with a mean look on their face feels different than a white fan yelling "you suck" with a mean look on their face.

I can’t decide who I want to win out of LAL or Suns, can’t decide who I fear more. On one hand Lakers are big and athletic with two big mega stars, the kind of team we don’t match up well against.

Chris Paul seems to kill us no matter what team he’s on along with Booker has had some big big games against the jazz. Luckily we don’t need to worry about either team till the third round.

looking forward to this game tonight.
Agreed. Kind of a toss up.
I guess I would rather face the suns at their best than the Lakers at their best. Will the Lakers ever be at their best though?

Lakers will more likely have the NBA 6th man on their side, especially in the WCF, where we would be forced to play 5 on 8. At least with the suns there is more likelihood of the series being officiated fairly.

I don’t know, but I would be curious how much underlying beliefs about an area impact this. For instance, if someone were to hear something said at MSG, is it easier to say “wow, there are racists here,” rather than “wow, they are racists here”? Same for Utah. The difference is subtle, but important.

There is a trick question in a clinical setting where someone comes in with bad asthma, shortness of breath, and wheezing. You give them a breathing treatment, but then the wheezing gets significantly worse. What’s happening is that you’re opening their airways to the point where they’re moving much more air, causing the wheezing to sound worse.

I wouldn’t know. I only had good seats once at a game against Orlando near the end of a season we tanked for Exum. This was the game Trey Burk hit a game winning shot that basically gave Orlando the 4th pick and Utah the 5th. After the game I got yelled at by some mom with her two kids in front of me because I had been rooting for a loss all game. Lol

The only problem is I’ve not seen many black people at the games I’ve gone too at least hard to pick out of a crowd.

I do wonder if the hate thing is due to us being the quintessential down trodden small market and Utah always being the red headed stepchild in the nba where no one ever wants to play. For example LBJ’s comments about how no one as kids ever paid attention to the Jazz or it’s best players like Stockton and Malone. Not condoning or making excuses for some of the bad fan behavior, just wish there was another reasoning behind our bad reputation.

did you guys see this ? I am sorry if it was mentioned somewhere before.... 3 Jazz fans banned as well?? WTF

Good point.
