Jazz Offseason Plan

I am thinking our worries are less wing defense but more Point of attack, guard defense. Anyways, Jazz simply need to improve wherever they can on perimeter. Can't really play 3 of Mitchell, Clarkson, Ingles, Bogey at the same time.

One of them needs to go or they get some of their minutes down and then we may have a situation on our hands with unhappy players. In the playoffs, if healthy, Mitchell can player closer to 40 and that may mean even less minutes for the rest of them.

Jazz are in a bind. They need a 2 way player in the worst way.

I wish I could agree with you here, but I just don’t see it. Nothing crazy will happen. Bogey should be traded, but likely won’t be.

Rudy is going to be on the roster this upcoming season. You can write that on a stone tablet.
I should’ve qualified my post a bit more pointing out that even if Smith is who I think he is, he’s not going to be able to simply wave a magic wand in his first offseason as owner and cure all of the Jazz’s ailments. Also, while I’m 100% certain that Smith is going to do whatever it takes to distance himself from the Miller Status Quo, there’s no guarantees that it will work. We’ve seen aggressive GM’s/Owners crash and burn time and time again.

On the Rudy thing, I’d be shocked if he was moved this offseason. I think Smith will want to see what 1 more season of a Donovan/Rudy core looks like with some added perimeter defense. However, unlike Lindsey, I think a brain trust of Smith/Wade/and Zanik are much more likely to guage the market to see what a potential package with Rudy as the centerpiece could get the Jazz in return.

Very good post. It's hard to win with 3 of Clarkson, Joe, Don, Mike and Bojan on the floor.

I hate the Kuzma idea. Don’t want him anywhere near this team.
If we want a Slim Shady look-a-like, may as well get the cheaper version of Daniel Theis. Or even the real Slim Shady.

tl;dr just say no

Vrenz shot just over 50% from the free throw line. That’s a concern I haven’t seen mentioned. His height looks legit to me. And he certainly looks over 200 pounds. He’s the thickest looking 205 pound dude at that height I’ve ever seen. He reminds me a lot of Saric coming out. Quick release on the 3. Can handle the ball and penetrate. A bit of offensive swagger. Questionable on d. Very Saric-ish vibe to me. But the rebounding numbers are pretty bad given his size and athleticism.

Moves I would make:

Bojan for Kuzma, #22 and future draft considerations

S&T Conley to Philly, Boston or Indiana. Get Brogdon, Smart and an asset, 3 team where Simmons goes elsewhere and we get something.

If Charlotte throws us the kitchen sink with an offer for Rudy in October, take it if we still have Favors and Doke.

I'm coming around to the Kuzma idea. Being on a team with LeBron mixed with being in LA everyone is expected to be an all-star level player. A change of scenery might be exactly what he needs. Swapping out Bojan for Kuzma lowers your floor but potentially raises the ceiling for the future if he figures it out like other players who have left the bright lights of LA (see Jordan Clarkson). You would save $5.5m this upcoming season and $6.3m the following and pocketing some draft picks in the process would not be the worst of things. It definitely would be a high risk high reward type of deal.

It is really defense everywhere in the backcourt that is the issue.

This is why guys like Naismith defensive player of the year Marcus Garrett are intriguing. Has the combination of length and athleticism to guard 1-3, and can shoot the 3 well enough. May well be a UFA or late second guy we could buy in for.

Didn’t the jazz try to sign Batum and he picked the Clippers over us? Not sure we needed Rivers. Portis or Craig would’ve been nice.

And you’re still with her, why?
Rivers would have been better than Oni, and actually about the same if not cheaper.

**** it. I’m buying Mitchell being able to lead Kuzma to maximize his talent.

Kuzma, #22, and the Iowa State kid for Conley. We’d free up around ~20M that way.

Then do everything you can to trade Favors. We’d then be free of ~35M and have a decent amount to spend on a FA pg and another player.

The only thing that concerns me significantly is that FT%. That's really terrible.

I think he is primarily operating as a 3 so I don't know how apt these comparisons to Saric or Zingis are. More Ingles-esque in my mind.

The Jazz will have the full MLE at most.

So Ben Simmons ultra-light? Doesn't sound great.
