2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

I think we need this guy....

Athletic at-rim finisher who thrives in the open floor. He also displays excellent awareness cutting off-ball to get open for dump-offs or lobs.
Skilled ball handler who has great passing vision. He can bring the ball up the floor off defensive rebounds.
In the half-court, he could thrive in scheme screening for a dynamic shot-making guard by setting picks and rolling to the basket.
Improved his shooting mechanics as a senior and shot the best percentage of his career from 3 and the line.
Elite defensive potential as a switchable player. He can lock down quicker guards due to his quickness and fundamentals sliding laterally, but he’s also strong enough to bother bigger wings and forwards.
Good rim protection. He excels at jumping vertically with opponents to alter their shots without fouling.
There’s small-ball center potential in him. Headsy off-ball player who understands proper angles when fighting around screens or defending the pick-and-roll.
He recognizes opponent actions to make proper rotations, and with his length and athleticism he frequently racks up blocks and steals.

"Leaner Draymond Green or Andre Roberson"

Which highly touted HS prospect is most worth taking a flyer on at #30 if they're there?

Jalen Johnson, Ziaire Williams, BJ Boston?

Herb Jones

He might be the perfect add at #30 if we truly do "run it back". He should be able to contribute immediately, and he could arguably end up being the best defender in this draft. He can rebound, finish at the rim, and is comfortable on the ball.

He's not guaranteed to develop into a 3pt threat and he's not going to have a dynamite mid-range game, but he'll be an athletic defender.

I wouldn't mind Herb Jones at 30 if the pick isn't traded. But then again, the Jazz can still probably get him if they get another 2nd round pick, like 31st to 45th.

I would rather take him later which means we were able to trade down for multiple options or we bought the pick that got us Herb.

But regardless, I'm with you - I wouldn't mind Herb Jones one bit.

If that is who you are getting great... but yeah lets go ahead and slide back in the draft to make that happen please.

I think the Jazz are going to make funky moves on draft day and won't end up picking at #30. A bunch of teams are probably going to want that pick from the Jazz.

They need to be opportunistic. If a guy they love falls… go get him. If it’s a pile of prospects without a ton of differentiation… find the best trade back offer that gets you one of those prospects and other useable stuff.

I just don't think the Jazz are going to be passive and sit back and see who falls to #30. I think they're going to pick a couple guys they like and hunt them, whether it's the 1st round or 2nd round.

He’s my draft crush this year, as in a guy I’m irrationally high on. In previous years I’ve gone for Thybulle and Tillman (who have both worked out to some degree) and Admiral Schofield (not so much).
But really all I want this year is to go to bed on draft night with a positive feeling. I stayed up till 4am (time difference) to see us draft Grayson and Azubuike and that wasn’t great.

I think if we pick up two seconds in the 30-45 range we are looking at using one to help offload Favs... not sure we want two rookies on the regular roster. Maybe one gets a two-way. We don't have a ton of roster spots if you figure we bring back Conley... give one to a rookie and use the taxpayer MLE. I would guess we add one minimum vet too in part to make sure we don't have a repeat of this year. I think if we move back it may be for a pick in the 30s and to offload Favs or for a pick in the 30s and multiple future picks... or you parlay the second pick you get this year for additional picks. Or they use one pick on a draft and stash guy.

IDK... just doubt we give up on Hughes, Oni, Thomas (though we should just cut him). Forrest likely gets another two-way, but if he gets a minimum deal I think they want to retain him too.
