2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

Jazz taking D Sharpe with any pick seems completely stupid
What about Udoka? That's all Jazz need, two big C's that can only play C

Look taking Sharpe seems about as dumb as taking Udoka last year when you knew Rudy was getting the money and you were going to sign Favs to the MLE...

It would be so damn funny... in a sad depressing kinda way.

What an absolute nightmare. If we didn't have a track record doing stupid **** like this, I would say that they were being stupid.
I would have Lolz at someone that mocked Udoka to us last year... the question is... will there still be people wanting to fight me that its a stupid pick?

Maybe it was Jazz that gave Day'Ron Sharpe a promise from? lol Word is Sharpe received a promise from a team in the 1st rd. Highly doubt it though, Jazz wouldn't do something like that. Maybe it was the Clippers.

Lockewatch stuff was discussed but my sense listening to Locke is plan A is absolutely to move back and dump Favs no matter who is left on the board. He was like... Hyland - Nah I don't see it... McBride - Nothing there.... Herb Jones - I'm fully erect... this is the guy.

I'm kidding about his motivations and insight... I do think he hasn't necessarily hinted at a guy but the thought of moving back... which is rational... but its boring and unsexy... so I reject it.

I've seen rumors of him and Brooklyn... which makes some sense I guess.

Going to focus more on trade down targets now. I think it's basically a guarantee the Jazz won't draft til the 40's.

Kessler Edwards
Aaron Henry
Isaiah Livers
Jason Preston
Austin Reaves
Rokos Jokubaitis
DJ Carton
Sam Hauser
Justin Champaigne
Aamir Simms
Vrenz Bleingbergh

This is now who we looking at.

I watched Livers a little bit and thought he was a Jordan Nwora-level prospect. Maybe not quite the knockdown shooter like Nwora, but should get drafted in a similar range to play a similar role.

I mentioned it before, but I think Vrenz Bleijenberg is going to be viable on defense, especially when he gets NBA-level conditioning. So, 6'10" (w/o shoes), 7'1" wingspan with handle, passing, defense and probably adequate shooting if he'll cut out some bad habits.

Filip Petrusev is getting **** on in some of the mocks, but he has a Vucevic skillset (minus the floaters) and has been very productive in Europe. Question is the mobility to guard a bit on the perimeter.

Isnt the whole knock on him that he is extremely soft?

He used to be like 180 lbs. He was a waif. Now he's up to about 210 lbs, he's keeping up with wings, and his length is disruptive.

Some poor schmuck compiled a bunch of footage on him this season. Defense starts 2 hrs in. There are timestamps in the description.

Squint your eyes and pretend he's Chandler Parsons on that end.

Out of this group I feel like Edwards and Vrenz could be late draft sleepers. I like a lot of what Edwards does.

So what are Vrenz's weaknesses or potential NBA downfalls? The way you talk about him makes it sound like he's a top 14 class player.

When he gets his feet under him, takes a split second to get his balance and leans into his shot, he's a good shooter. When he flings the ball off balance, he has some wild misses. He also doesn't have much of an in-between game right now. He uses his length and uses angles to score at the rim, but I wonder if that will work against NBA rim protection.

He's also a bit too upright on defense sometimes and lets guys get a step. He has a habit of wanting to trail defenders and use his length to make a late play on the ball. That probably won't work against fast guards or crafty wings.

His free-throw shooting percentage is pretty poor, but that's based on a sample of like 30 FTAs, so that's pretty much meaningless.

He needs to get stronger, see if he can become a bit more explosive and improve his defensive technique, but you'd expect the same from any 20 year-old. He's a high-ceiling/meh floor prospect who will probably go in the early 2nd round. The appeal is that in a high pick-and-roll situation he can make any pass over the defense, and he has ability to make reads and time his passes. I think he could learn under Joe Ingles and be a fluid secondary creator. Playing off of Rudy could make his life pretty easy and could get him some open looks right on the rim. He could run a high screen/roll and end up dunking the ball if the defense doesn't commit to him.

My main knock is that he may not be an enough presence on the floor. Upside is real and he plays with some vision/reads the game but too many empty possessions and they seem to come in stretches. Shooting is wild, some bad misses plus poor percentage but form is generally fine. I bet his Catch and Shoot numbers are much better.

I don’t want Vrenz just because there will be 15 “get the Vrenz out of the garage” threads.

I feel like Jay Huff will be a starz man and @homeytennis will bring him up every time we mentioned we need a stretch 5 (all love of course). He just seems like he has a Utah vibe.
