Is Conley going or staying? NBA radio mentioned Jingles and Mountain Mike for Ben Simmons. I don’t know, but seems like a lot of magical thinking that #30 is going to get a difference maker. In some ways we are where the Bucks were last year. They were able to pick up players the filled gaps. The playoffs were a war of attrition, but they built a roster that strengthened weaknesses and complimented their star player. Running it back and letting the cake bake another year is magical thinking.

I am 99% convinced Conley is staying. The PG free agent market is saturated. I hope one of Bogey or Joe will be traded for perimeter defense or a small ball 5, but I am expecting a Fav salary dump.

All kidding aside, the Lakers offered Kuzma and #22 to the Pacers for TJ Warren and #13. People kind of took shots at Kuzma for the Pacers turning down the trade, but I don't think people realize the Lakers were trying to get TJ Warren too (and not Lamb). If I'm the Pacers, I don't take that either.

Yeah, I’m prepared to be disappointed. I am a Jazz fan after all.

The offseason is looking like we’re going to give up a first round pick to offload Fav’s salary (trading down or out) so we can overpay Mike Conley. And then sign some minimum dudes. That is depressing as ****.

So we are same team as last year with the same aging core and all we are doing is replacing Niang and Favors’ rotation spots with minimum contract guys. One of our developmental guys has finally developed into an NBA player, and we just let him walk? Fav is overpaid, but he is a serviceable if not good backup center. We’re going to give up a pick just to create another hole in the roster to be filled by a minimum guy? To get off a guy that only makes $9 million?

We also again failed to address with any quality players the perimeter defense issues. How the hell are we better now or potentially better down the road with moves like that?

Not sure how you could spin that as a positive. It reeks of lacking a clear vision of what we’re trying to do. Are we trying to contend? Well then why are replacing two rotation players with minimum contract guys? And giving up a first round pick for the privilege of doing so. Just pay the GD tax and run it all back for one year, Ryan, or at least get to the deadline and see if you can’t make some tax saving move then.

Are we trying to get a little younger and build a little flexibility for a potential roster pivot next summer? Okay, then why haven’t we traded one of our rotation guys for a younger piece towards that end? I am fine with us being consciously a little worse next year by trading Joe or Bogey and bringing in a younger player or draft pick to try to build around Don for a run at it three years down the road. What I am not okay with is us getting worse by replacing rotation pieces with vet minimum guys and burning a first round pick for the privilege of doing so. That doesn’t help us win now, nor does it help us pivot down the road.

Just do something with a clear vision in mind. Paying lip service to contention but cheaping out on what it takes to get there will really piss me off. But I’d expect nothing less from a BYU guy.

My guess is the only Jazz trade that will happen on draft day is Favors and 30th pick to trade down. And the trades involving Bogey, Ingles or O'Neal is after August 3rd.

The Jazz will miss Bogey's scoring versatility and mismatch ability, but what he brings is more cherry on top than absolutely necessary. The Jazz also need to upgrade the defensive ability of the starting unit, and getting rid of Bogey in favor of a better defender is the most logical way to do that. You arent benching Mitchell/Conley to upgrade the defense. Royce is the best perimeter defender on the team, so it would be hard to replace him and upgrade the defense, so that really only leaves Bogey. He also makes the most money, so trading him would bring back the most savings (extra incentive for FO).

I don’t think that is true, as without Bogey in the bubble they did not get out of first round. If they can get someone like Larry Nance Jr then that could be helpful in terms of saving salary and getting a player who makes an impact on offense. But Bogey for picks is the Jazz failing to show they are a true contender.

Bogey for picks also nets a trade exception which could be useful and the ability to trade Favs for returning players instead of just salary. If they do a Bogey for picks deal you have to view it in tandem with the follow up deals imo... on the surface it looks like a non-contender move but it might just be one move in a series of re-tooling moves. I'm more on board with this move than the money saving Favs deal. Depending on how bad that is I would be upset with Ryan. He should have either had a tighter reign on the budget and planning last year... or been willing to back up the Brinks truck to pay the tax.
