The players’ association is looking out for the guys making money. The guys making money are the ones who want to move around. Nobody cares about the rookies, and unless there was expansion it wouldn’t increase any opportunities, it would just redistribute how those opportunities come to be.
 
I would support some draft reform but just don't see a big benefit to doing another round. I'd change the whole system to an auction style system where you get draft points based on where you finished and bid on players. You can bank and carryover the points... so OKC wouldn't end up getting the shaft and end up 6th.. they could push a bunch of their chips to the middle to get the building blocks they need. The current system is just so luck based.

It would also facilitate trades because instead of giving up a mega valuable 1st or a near worthless 2nd rounder... you just give a certain amount of points. Think it would help teams stuck in the middle... rather than drafting the 8th or 9th best guy they can bank the points for a couple years to push in for a better prospect. Would just seem to reward smarter well run teams rather than luckier teams.

The draft creates a more level playing field. It's pretty dumb that there is a mad rush for players after the draft since there are more GLeague, 2 way, and Summer League spots than drafted player spots to fill them.

The GLeague needs to be formalized and made into a virtual minor leagues for the NBA.

And big markets should not get the advantage of signing the best undrafted players. Those rights should fall to teams in a more level environment. If a big market team wants to buy that 3rd round pick so they can get that player, then so be it. At least they wouldn't be getting them just for free.

How does expanding the draft impact the guys making more money? I don't get the logic there.

All my idea does is expanding the draft so that player movement has a few more minor consequences that might favor teams that lose players.

I don't think a team will pass on signing a player because they lose a 2nd rounder in the next draft. If that player fits a need, they sign him without hesitation.

I didn’t say that. I said expansion is the only way to increase opportunities. I’m talking about franchise expansion. It doesn’t matter how many draft rounds you have — the roster spots remain the same.

Big markets don’t have an advantage with undrafted guys… those guys push to get to a place they can get a guaranteed spot or a two way. I believe Dort had his agent tell teams in the 50s not to pick him so he could take a two way from OKC. Terrence Davis did this because Toronto was willing to give him a guaranteed contract. Lakers got guys because they had like 3 players on their roster… not because it’s LA. A team can really hold a guy back if they have his rights. I’d say we need to do 3 two ways and then we can see about a third round.

Nothing you said makes any sense. Are these undrafted players tilting the balance of the league? I'm pretty sure Utah is better with undrafted players than most teams. You put in more drafts you are just letting teams hold onto rights of guys while they play overseas, preventing them from coming over to teams who would actually want to sign them.
 
And what's this idea that big market teams get the best undrafted players. By and large the best undrafted guys go to the ********* teams because there could be available minutes.

Tony indicated in his article that we are done... maybe some front office announcements/hires. Also indicated Brantley at the 5 in SL for a short time was something that will be experimented with in the regular season (but with Gay and Paschall). I think we dip our toes in the small ball 5 waters.
