Free agent frenzy!

Earl Watson is a so-so backup? WTF are you talking about? Earl Watson was the best backup PG the Jazz have had since Stockton was backing up Green.

My opinion: Earl Watson can barely shoot (41% FG), can't penetrate, plays some scrappy defense for being undersized and was the only PG who could fake his way through the Jazz's offense once Williams left. Dude averaged 4.5 PPG and 3.5 Assists last year in 20 minutes per game, which, quite frankly, doesn't put him on par with the league's best back-ups. He looked cool throwing lobs to Jeremy Evans, but otherwise people were delightfully surprised when he made any kind of play.

Please propose a better backup free agent with superior stats and leadership/attitude who won't break the bank because hell, he's a backup and it makes no sense to pay such a guy 4M per year.

Do I have to be the first to point out that Shannon Brown isn't a PG?

No, but he can still run the backup PG. And if Burks can play PG, then he and Brown can play off each other fine. Brown can bring the ball down the court under pressure and can defend the other teams PG. He is basically a rich man's Ronnie Price.

He can run the backup PG if there's no other options or the team needs to guard Deron Williams. Shannon Brown is a Jazz killer but he's not and has not been that good.

As it stands, I'm not sure the Jazz have even one pass-first player on the entire roster. Shannon Brown does nothing to help that.

That's all fine in meltdown (multiple injuries, i.e.) but two kinda-sorta-not-really PG's don't equal one good one.

I wouldn't eyeball anyone unless it was some veteran that has a good attitude but doesn't play much. I would also support bringing in Heinrich. Andrei needs to stay in Russia.

We could pick up someone like Boykins.

To sloppily quote Bill Simmons;

'Does having two combo guards make one PG? No, it means you have two combo guards. If you have two Arnold Palmers, you don't have an iced tea and a lemonade, you have two Arnold Palmers.'

Shannon Brown: 42.5%, 34.9% from three, 1.9 rpg, 1.2 apg in 19.1 minutes
Earl Watson: 41.0%, 33.6% from three, 2.3 rpg, 3.5 apg in 19.6 minutes

I'd rather have Watson and unless we can get him for two years, 3M, not sign Brown in addition to Earl as it makes little sense imo.
