Quin asked if there is total buy-in from the team, Rudy Gay spat

We got way too many guys who want the ball and not enough guys who want to defend the ball.

We've had that for a couple of years now and it's worked far better than it is currently. Something just feels different, and the pending trade deadline certainly isn't helping. Bringing in Ainge has compounded the stress of that particular situation in my opinion.

The NBA is filled with really smart people and talented players. We haven't adapted to play playoff basketball, and everybody has adapted to us. We can out-talent a lot of teams, but the good ones know they can beat us. Regular season success is borderline irrelevant if you aren't built for playoff basketball.

I'll use a college football comparison. We are built like a Big 12 team. The regular season looks good and some stats pop out, but they get exposed in the college football playoff.

This team needs a major shake up - either the roster or the coach, and I'm quite certain it won't be the coach.

Sloan would have used a quirkier vocabulary, but would have said largely the same thing.
I don't know. I think Sloan would have been pretty quick to call the team out about their play, and not get as personally insulted by the question. Sloan was very no-nonsense, there are examples of responses of his to similar questions which is where the "jackpotting" jazz-meme comes from. He would not have gotten personally defensive about it at all, imo.

Sloan wasn’t perfect or close to it… prime Sloan wouldn’t have stood for the ****** effort and lack of focus. That bad *** quit at halftime because he was sick of a dude not doing what he asked. After friggin 20 years or some ****… he said him or me and bounced. He had more fight in him than anyone on this team. He may very well have said he wasn’t doing a good job getting the guys ready or taken some blame. Quin is not holding himself or the players accountable.

And if a player disrespected Sloan, he'd bench their ***. ****, he quit when ownership wouldn't let him bench Deron. He was no-nonsense, and you played hard or you didn't play. It helped that your two stars approached the game the same way.

Quin gave a rousing speech after the game though... where he told them they know what to do and they should do it.

Sometimes you just need a guy that will tell you that you are playing like ******* and if you come at him he will literally fight you... and probably win. RIP
