Is Earl Watson really OK as b/u to Devin Harris?

I campaigned for the Jazz to sign Earl Watson last season to back up Deron Williams, and it actually happened. I do have reservations with re-signing Earl to back up Devin Harris, though. Williams, up to last season, was very durable, so Watson was only going to be playing limited minutes. Harris, OTOH, has had more than his share of injuries and missed games. IMO, we need a b/u PG who can start for a few days/weeks when Harris is unable to go. Watson struggled last season when he had to play longer minutes, which is a concern.
Hopefully KoC has his eyes and ears open for opportunities to upgrade our b/u PG position come Dec. 9...

Maybe my memory is foggy, but didn't Earl kick *** when he started that week or two after Dwill got hurt? I love the guy. I have no doubts about his ability to be our b/u PG for the next few years, I'm also comfortable with him starting when injuries require him to. Dude's a stud. Plus, where would we be without the Early-Oop????

In the other thread i was talking about trying to either regain Maynor or acquire draft pick Jackson from the Thunder. Probably in either case I'd still want Watson.

Pretty sure he was either one assist or one rebound away from a triple double when he started in front of Harris (might've even been DWill). Don't even remember the last time Deron got a triple double.

I think Earl does a good job as a backup PG, but I wouldn't want to have him as a starting point. He has a horrible shot and has a hard time in traffic. I wish the Jazz would go after Shannon Brown or Farmar.

Other than the occassional Early-Oop, Watson's game is comparable to watching paint dry.

He's a decent back-up; but I'm not going to lose any sleep if he goes elsewhere.

As a starter last year he average 8.5ppg, 6.5 apg, 4rpg, 1spg. On 45% shooting, and 39.5from 3. Not the best but could be worse for sure. Of all the free agent pgs hes the best player that we could afford in my opinion.

I could be wrong but wasnt he really highly ranked on D last year too?

Sure, but I'd prefer we have at least one PG in the rotation that is developing, not on the downside of their careers.

I was pleasently surprised by Watson last season and am totally fine with him as backup PG coming into this season. The real player we should be dead set on replacing is Ronnie Price.

This.

I still think the jazz's first priority is to sign Watson and if that doesn't happen I would entertain locke's thought on trading memo for Anthony rollover and Jordan farmar!

Memo for Petro and Farmar would upgrade us nicely. Petro might do better in a structured environment like the Jazz.
I still like Watson; we could do a lot worse. He had some real good games for us, but he struggled with consistancy after DWill left, especially when Harris had to sit some games. Just sayin' we could do better.
I'd love to see us end up with OKC's Westbrook, but can't imagine why OKC would trade him to us, unless Howard committed elsewhere. Then we could offer Jefferson, but no idea how to match the salaries...
