Trade deadline discussion

I think the jazz need to take our older vets and start fielding offers this offseason. Bogey, Conley, And Gay. We need to retool in a bad way. Jazz need to jump start the transition now with a JC trade. Let some of the younger guys with promise such as Paschall and JB get some minutes so we can see where we stand on that front and fill remaking minutes with house. I honestly think this summer the jazz may have to decide between going after a chip soon or possibly trading Gobert or Mitchell. Trading Mitchell may get us there quicker but trading Gobert sets back the timeline. Could get a couple good pieces if trading Rudy in one deal and then a package of Mike and Bogey with draft assets obtained in the Gobert deal.

After the Conley deal, we had no margin for
Yep. People here rant on us missing out on Bane and Herb Jones, two late round picks that otherwise wouldn't have mattered but because we did the Conley trade, we had no room for error so those moves on the margin have become your final nails on the coffin

Exactly. The Conley trade made it to where we had to stay 100% healthy and do at least a decent job drafting playable players.

We haven't stayed healthy and our picks haven't helped so we lack the depth necessary to go where want.

No single move is to blame; almost all our moves have been bad since we did the Conley deal.

We either get another Band-Aid out of the medical kit and try and smooth things over ..

Or realise that Conley , Oneal, bojan and Clarkson hasn’t moved the needle in the Mitchell - Gobert era …

Time to package those 4 in various trades and start fresh

There are not a lot of "sellers" at this deadline and given how little the Jazz have to offer the only way we get something of obvious value is to overpay. I'm afraid what limits this team is bigger than anything that is likely to be solved at the trade deadline.

Maybe they try something around the margins (e.g., K. Williams) if you can without giving up another 1st round pick and wait until the off-season to do anything of significance.

That's why I think we should become sellers. There really aren't a lot of solid players available right now.

I'm not eager to trade Bogey, but how much does his value decline if we wait until after this season to trade him? Expiring contracts have greater relative value to a longterm contract if the player isn't good but have lesser relative value when the player is still good. He is also unlikely to be as good next year.

I'm confused, this looks like one of the richest crops of solid starter/sub-all-star players I've ever seen (Barnes, Grant, Collins, etc.) being dangled.

Problem is only one of those teams is a true seller. Kings and Hawks don't want to bottom out... so they want to trade good stuff for other different good stuff. The Kings may have read the writing on the wall and are willing to trade Barnes for picks.

The play in tournament means that there are still some teams in it that normally wouldn't be. So takes a few "sellers" off the table. Even OKC isn't a super motivated seller because they have so many picks already and can just hold on to their pieces unless you give something good.

I'm not saying cash in... but I'm calling the Celtics to see exactly what they'd give for Conley... what about Washington... they willing to give two firsts, Deni, and Dinwiddie? I'm only moving Mike or Bogey if it feels like the other team is overpaying.

I don't want to do anything that makes Rudy or Donovan say "eff it I'm out". But I think one of Bogey are Mike aren't on the team next year if we flame out (like it appears we are going to do). A pivot is coming... if you get a premium for doing it now then go on ahead.
