I'm not saying that at all.

My point is simple - Don is a human being and had the right to be upset when Rudy did what he did. If they never reconciled, Don has the right to still be upset with Rudy.

It shouldn't impact the floor, but Don has rhe right to have an issues with Rudy.

If they never reconciled despite Gobert apologizing and by all accounts putting in the work, then that’s on your boy.

What I think is more likely is that Don consciously keeps himself and Gobert at arm’s length because all the cool kids in the league think that Gobert has cooties and Donovan is so eager to prove that he is cool. I think his reasons are small-minded and ******.

That’s not an entirely rational reasoning, but it makes more sense to me than this really stretched rationale you’re using.

Donovan straight up doesn’t like Rudy, Rudy doesn’t like shouldering the burden of being the janitor for everyone else and getting **** on for it. If I have to choose who I back, it’s not a hard call.

I thought we were talking about the present. No one is saying Gobert wasn’t a real dumbass. No one. Not even Gobert.

Let’s talk about the present. Is it still your point that the reason Donovan can’t pass to Rudy today is because he happened to test positive first?

Cuz that’s nuts.
I already said that Don should not be holding a grudge that impacts the floor as childishly as not passing it to Rudy.

Assuming he isn't passing on purpose is also reckless.

I'm talking about how they could still have a fractured relationship.

Sure Gobert was stupid and irresponsible around COVID... just like 50-60-70-80%(?) of people were at the time. Noone is denying that. This is settled. What's also true is that Gobert was very apologetic and contrite in the aftermath. He pretty much did all the right things in the subsequent weeks and months to try to remedy the situation.

Donovan is incredibly calculated person. The one thing he didn't manage to calculate is how much Jazz fans love Gobert and how his behavior after the COVID drama will be seen by Jazz fans. And this was 2 years ago and is extending well into this year. Hell, look at polls like this. Jazz fans will forever resent Mitchell for the way he handled himself and let the entire organization and Rudy out to dry for MONTHS after that thing. Jazz fans will never trust him after that. Yes, Rudy made a mistake, but he also almost immediately showed regret and remorse... while we had to read "unsalvagable" reports and shade thrown towards Gobert for months if not years. Mitchell thought he can win this power struggle behind the scenes. And he might win it with the FO, but he won't win it with Jazz fans. I'm almost positive if he runs Gobert out in the summer, Jazz fans will boo him and the entire team the first time they get to see them. And they better hope this thing runs smoothly on the court because things can get pretty ugly pretty quick.
I think Don did have his issues with Rudy prior to this, and he thought he had enough built up rep with the fanbase that he could use that situation and the fanbase would throw Rudy aside and be with him. You’re right, he miscalculated that in a big way, and it was the beginning of the end for the fanbase and him on the honeymoon faze. He seriously miscalculated how much the fanbase liked Rudy. I have to admit, I’m not sure why Smith is so all in on pleasing Donovan at this point. He has to see the fanbase has fell quite a bit out of love with the dude at some point.

Yeah, he isn't passing to wide open Rudy on accident.

Are you serious? A media obligation PR saving interview is not a guarantee that Rudy actually made things right with Don.

You believe everything you hear in a press conference?

That’s more than I’ve seen from Mitchell, so you bet your *** I’m rolling with any evidence vs zero.

Possible. Mitchell has been having very diva-ish behavior for a while now. Throwing Gobert under the bus, throwing the trainer who got fired under the bus(BTW, for CORRECTLY holding him back after which he got injured again), constant passive aggressive BS every time Gobert demands defensive accountability.
