Earl Watson signs 2 year deal

-<sigh>-

well, he's a solid backup, and I kind of figured he'd be back.

My one question: why is there no rumors about Ronnie Price? Did he really suck that badly? I thought Price and Watson were about equal.

I mean we are taking players who weren't even in the NBA last year over Price......

Someone please post a face palm pic. Hotttnickkk is probably right; this must be your first year watching the Jazz.

Also, the Jazz officially signed Burks and Kanter today. Would make its own thread, but seems pointless.

You've just said "This will be my first season watching the Jazz" without actually saying it.

Um, no, I've watched Price since they got him. You do remember him dunking on Boozer before we picked him up, right? And they did re-sign him once, so they must have liked him to some degree, so no, it's certainly not my 'first season'. Price has fans, or I thought he did. Believe it or not, Price is my neighbors favorite Jazz player, and he will be crushed if he isn't signed.

Good. Tinsley is a way better distributor of the basketball than Price, so if he's healthy he'll be at least our 3rd PG. Even if Devin Harris misses some games, we should still be solid at PG.
In a lot of ways I'd still like us to sign Price just to compete with Raja Bell as a b/u SG...

I had posted this in a previous thread but I guess it needs to be re-posted for you.

ronnie price stats among all guards last season:

Overall Win Shares: -0.7 (ranking 161st worst of 162 guards)
Winshares per 48mins: -0.048 (153rd worst of 162)
FG%: 35.2% (150th of 162) 3
Pt%: 29.0% (121st of 162)
Asst/TO ratio = 1.01 (nothing showing the rank among guards... but a pg with a a/to ratio of 1... terrible)
PER: 5.5 (154th worst of 162)

its pretty safe to say almost anybody could and probably would be better for the jazz than price.

Earl is going to be good for the young guys. He'll mostly play with Kanter, Favors, Burks and he'll be great getting them shots and confidence. This is the right move for us. By contrast, signing Earl as the backup for most teams would be the wrong move. He's not actually that great. He's just great at what we need him for the next 2 years.

I love him as a teammate and he seems like a real solid guy, but his skill set just isn't quite there, which is a shame because he's so easy to root for IMO.
