Atlanta Rudy Trade

Came here to post something similar. Why in the **** would they do this.

This is why in general if we don’t trade both and are dead set on trading one we trade Donovan because we get WAY more for him back.
Because Collins wants out and they don't lose a single guy instrumental for what they want to do. Rudy fills their massive gaps.

Does Rudy have value or not? 2 non lottery picks, 2 prospects who barely played and Collins.

Put another way:
-a dude who puts up All Star numbers
-a top-6 pick not that long ago with a 20 PER, >.700 TS%, positive on/off split despite not playing with Trae very much, and player who Hawks fans would revolt if traded
-AND TWO 1st rounders

For a guy that everyone in the league clowns on, has significant limitations to his game, will be 30 soon, and has a massive contract.

It’s too easy to spin this as way lopsided in favor of the Jazz. Maybe if they swap Capella with Okongwu, but even then I still have my doubts about two firsts.

But sure, I probably do the trade from the Jazz’s perspective.

I think I’d rather see Collins and Heurter with a couple picks. I feel like if the Jazz intend to build around Mitchell and they get this return we did good. If the Jazz can get a S&T for Bridges then I would be over the moon. As I live in the Charlotte area to me that is the best of both worlds because we get to bring My favorite Jazz player into the Swarm and the Jazz get a dynamic wing and hopefully a pick.

I don't think Atlanta would send Collins, Huerter and picks.

Bridges would be absolutely perfect. Hell, I would take back Hayward's terrible contract if they were sending Bridges too. I think he's untouchable though.

Does anyone here really think Atlanta even considers this?

I think they do, or at least something similar. They probably would want to include Capela instead of Okongwu. I think Capela+Collins gets you the salary matching, and from there you have a battle on the future facing assets. If the Hawks can move Capela somewhere else, I also think Collins+Huerter/Bogdan is on the table.

Gobert would likely turn ATL into one of the best teams in the league. Their defense could go from bottom 5 to top 5, and they'd be the favorites to have the best offense in the league. I do think the Jazz will struggle to get full value for Rudy because of his perception around the league, but he is one hell of a player and the Jazz should get a hefty return for him. I know the Kings are in their own world, but the Pacers got Haliburton and Hield for Sabonis. That's arguably a better package than Capela+Collins, and the difference between Gobert and Sabonis is massive. ATL should have to shell out some serious assets in addition to that Capela+Collins combo, and it will be worth it for them because of the way Rudy will transform their team.

I'd be a little weary of Bridges. He had a great year and didn't do anything that appears to be too unsustainable, but it's scary to have a guy who's only been this good for one year on the contract he will receive. He also plays a ton of minutes, which is a good thing, but it also makes his numbers look very good compared to John Collins, for example, who plays a lot less minutes. I actually think those two are similar level players, but the perception is much higher for Bridges right now.

Good post.

For some reason, I really don't want Capella. He fits what we run, but a lot of us don't want to run the same stuff. If we are taking back an offensively limited player like that, I would rather take the 21 year old Okongwu who is on a cheaper deal.

The salaries match for Collins, Okongwu and Jalen Johnson for Rudy.

Capela is a logical addition to the trade because ATL would have no use for him after getting Rudy. I understand your opinion though, Capela looked toast this year. He is not the same player that switched out onto Mitchell and clamped him in the playoffs several years ago. Physically, he looked Favors-esque all year. If Capela is included, I think the Jazz hold firm that he is a negative contract and ask more more in the ways of future compensation. Okongwu really showed some flashes though and I wouldn't mind us taking him in lieu of another FRP pick or something along those lines.

I've circled ATL as a trade candidate just because of their variety of assets and different ways to get a deal done. They have all their picks, additional picks, young players at different stages of their careers, and also vets. Whatever the Jazz desire, they're likely to find it on ATL's roster and ATL could not get a player for their roster than Rudy Gobert. This is the type of the move that elevates them to a contender.
