How Much Could Tyler Herro Match Donovan in Utah?

I actually really like the idea of Herro, solid numbers, good efficiency, and quite young.....

I love how in this mock trade though they just kind of throw in Robinson like that'd be a positive. If we're moving Donovan Mitchell we are not taking back any bad contracts

You have to make salaries match bud

Yeah looking at the Heat's roster you're right there really is no other feasible path to have the salaries match not using Robinson. If they Jazz really did explore this route and took back Robinson they better be getting a treasure trove of picks.

Why the **** do I keep hearing trade ideas for either Mitchell or Gobert where we get players back with substandard draft picks when we know we are paying for way less value. I’d rather find trades where we don’t just get worse but much much worse with assets, prospects and a high end first where we really suck for a few years. It’s gotta be better then what we endured last year with the jazz playing with little heart and passion. Let’s not do a half *** job. Let’s take our time build assets in quality first rounders and young prospects. WTF is Herro and scrubs with low end firsts going to do other then help us limp into the playoffs with little to no opportunity to build a team?

This team needs to be gutted and be bad for a few years.

Give the jazz all the bad contracts and good draft picks. Draft well, develop thes picks then when the bad contracts leave the young guys are coming into their own and build a team around the young core. Easy Peezy.

So the Salt Lake Tribune put together some trades ideas and one of them was Donovan for Herro/Robinson/Strus/Yurtseven/Tucker/27th pick this year/2024 Heat Pick/2027 Heat Pick.

Obviously I want better picks, but it got me thinking: How much different are Herro and Mitchell really?

If we gave Herro all the touches and opportunities that Mitchell got in Utah, could he match Donovan? How close could he come if he didnt? Could he potentially do better (he is 22 to Don's soon to be 26)?

Even without changing the roster up (which Utah would assuredly do) you would have this team:

Conley/Butler/Forrest
Herro/Clarkson/Robinson
O'Neale/Strus
Bogey/Tucker/Gay
Gobert/Yurtseven

That team is going to be a top 5 offense again, and the better depth (PJ Tucker would be huge in the playoffs) will lead to better defense. You could also make more "win now" moves to shore up the roster (replace at least 2 of Clarkson/Conley/Bogey) to improve the defense. The pick at 27 could net you a solid player. Maybe someone like a Jake Laravia. Maybe Jalen Wilson is still available. Possibly a Beachamp/Liddell/Terry/Braun
I would absolutely do this trade.

I just don't think I can get behind us getting Herro because there will be an epidemic in Utah of douchey white kids imitating him... it will be super cringy.

If we trade Donovan, I'd want it to be to a team that can give us some lottery picks...any picks the Heat trade will be in the mid-late 20's.

I would tend to agree. Heat can reload... but as long as they are unprotected they have potential to be valuable. Riley won't be there forever.

If we did this I'd kind of hope they re-route Herro to the Kings for #4 or Detroit for #5... maybe get some sweetners too. Then you hope to nail the pick. Herro is only cheap for one more year.
