HC candidates

A little pissed Quin took so freakin long to make a decision but it is what it is. Who are the candidates we should be targeting?

I’m on the record ad saying as I want to hire a young, black head coach. That said, Ham would’ve been my preference and he’s gone so I’m not sure who’s left who fits that description.

Who doesn’t fit that description but makes a lot of sense is Kevin Young. Born in SLC, he’s an LDS dude and is the Suns top assistant. But frankly, I really don’t want him as he just feels so God damn Utahr and imo is the last thing we need if we wanna try to mend and build around Rudy and Don which I think is salvageable with the right guy. I just don’t see that guy being someone so pasty white though. To progress as an organization, to shed the racist image, to get into Don’s ear and mind and truly get him into being a two way player and to attract young talent, I really think we need a black head coach.

Anyway, who else could we target?

I would be fine with top assistant coaches who have been firmly in the interviewing process like Adrian Griffin, Jamahl Mosley and David Vanterpool.

I think Lloyd Pierce could be another candidate. I liked him but things went awry with the Hawks and he got chewed. Not that the Hawks did well after he got fired. As soon as their coaching change high went away they got worse.

His firing got spinned as not having been able to build relationships with his players but it was more likely that he didn't cater to John Collins and Trae Young. Though, I am not sure how that would go with Mitchell but things need to be little uncomfortable.

Based on their resumes, Griffin is the only guy who interests me. Seems like he’d be a great catch. Is he their top assistant though?

What a strange post. You want to shed a ******** racist label by discriminating against white people. What a load of crap. We need to be looking at who we think the best coach is regardless of skin color. Some people are going so overboard trying not to be racist that they are full on discriminating against other people and not even trying to hide it anymore. So screwed up.

anybody who factors skin color into the coaching decision is a dumbass whose opinion should immediately be disregarded. hire the best guy - period. admittedly, i would kinda hate to see kevin young as a white lds guy get the gig, but if he's the best guy you have to pull the trigger.

my only criteria - don't hire some old nba retread who is a proven loser. go with a current assistant such as will hardy, charles lee or kenny atkinson. or throw money at an elite college coach such as scott drew or jay wright. hubert davis as a darkhorse perhaps.

I really wanted Hubert Davis at the end of the Stockton and Malone era, when we desperately lacked a shooter in the backcourt after Hornacek retired.

He has been a lead assistant coach for a while.

I just want to go on record saying that for me, skin color doesn’t enter into the equation. Best available candidates only based on experience, thoughtfully evaluated with an eye towards discipline, integrity and development. Give me a hard nosed, visionary open turnstile kinda coach whose prime objective isn’t to curry favor with the big money contracts. Time to clear the table and change the culture here IMO.

Couple things. 1. Ham was never coming to Utah no matter when Quin stepped down. 2. You don’t hire a man based of his skin color and age alone. That’s dumbassery

What does his religious background have to do with anything?

just optics, but to exclude the rest of my sentence is a tad disingenuous if we are going to have this conversation. but to answer your question again, just optics - but that isn't enough to dissuade me from endorsing the hire if he's the right guy.

No it’s not!! I get it, if he’s the best guy he’s the best guy, but religion, skin color, or anything else shouldn’t be part of the process. Someone being Lds, catholic, atheist, or Scientology, shouldn’t even be in the thought process, so tell me how it’s disingenuous. The only reason I cut the paragraph was so there was no misunderstanding, and yet somehow you did, but then again you’re even more senile than I am.

Thanks for letting me join this board. I have been a lurker here on this board for years and have enjoyed the ideas and banter here.

For HC, I have been thinking if we go through a rebuild/ (full or not) we will probably have young players. Mark Jackson did great with the Warriors in their rebuild, and he played here.
