Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Haven't had time to read through these threads the past couple of days, did I miss any actual news?
Oh and boomers are posting all over the place blaming people for random things instead of blaming Don and forgetting to rewind their VCR rentals before returning them to Big O Tires.

That's about it other than what has already been mentioned.

Slow news days.

Article from Hollinger kinda says what I have been saying the last little while on the Don trade... why are we saying we don't want players like RJ and Herro? You can lock them up for 4-5 years beyond this one and it will be a great deal. Will be even more true is you get them to take a slightly declining deal or flat and decline later. Neither guy is currently worth the max... but both guys could be values in 2-3 years when we are trying to be good... and would have more value than adding additional picks.

The alternative of opening up like 80M in space... when everyone has space... will mean it has lower utility in trades and in signing guys. This is a version of the Hayward extension decision... if the cap is 50% higher in 3 years then players you sign now to long deals will end up being values.

Its also another reason to pursue a sign and trade with Sexton... there are a couple other extension eligible guys out there like PJ Washington that you could lock up now... but I think there is a slight market inefficiency here that we aren't planning for correctly by insisting on only draft picks and guys on longer rookie deals.

So does DM look way bigger than Brunson in comparison to the other guy in this pics? Don't say that one step towards the camera makes that much difference.

I wish we could get pics of 6 NYK future 1st round draft picks hanging out in Ainge's front shirt pocket at a Buzz game with Grimes or something.
They basically the exact same height, Donovan is just an extremely broad individual.

From the article:

In some cases, that’s the case even if the player’s development stalls out. For example, BORDS$ values Poole as being worth $28.7 million for the coming season. If he doesn’t improve at all from that point, the rises in the cap environment alone will make him worth $145 million over the first four years of an extension. The most the Warriors can legally pay him over those four years is $147 million. The math for Barrett and Herro — both of whom are a year younger than Poole — plays out nearly as strongly.

Thus, committing to pay one of these guys $40 million in 2026-27 may seem like a big swallow, but it’s the equivalent of a salary in the $25 million range today. From the team side, they don’t need to become All-Stars for the contracts to turn into big wins. Also, going longer is likely even better. A full five years on a “designated rookie” deal looks aggressive at first, but by the end of the deal, you have a 27-year-old being paid regular starter money.

Some players may not go long... but if you are giving a flat 5 year max extension it will be so hard for them to pass up that money... Like I have said... I think you could even get them to take a declining value deal. Would Herro or Barrett turn down 5/150M extensions? I doubt it. Declining value would have them around 27M a year the last three years which is like $16M a year in today's cap translations.

Unfortunately the kings owe a future pick to the hawks with years of protections so they have no draft capital to move. They could make that 2024 hawks pick unprotected but that would still mean the soonest pick they could trade us is 2026. The team that I am hoping jumps into the conversation are the magic. I'm a big Jalen Suggs fan and they have 2 future picks from the bulls and nugs with minimal protections as well as all of their own picks. I don't know what happened with Suggs last year but I saw star potential from him at Gonzaga and see no reason why he shouldn't at least be a really really good pro.
So, what if we traded the Kings a 2024 pick from somewhere (say we send Clarkson or Beverley or Conley or Bodgnovic somewhere for a 2024 first). At that point couldn't they deal us their 2023, 2025, 2027, and 2029 picks for Mitchell?

Say... Spida, and the lowest 2024 pick we have for

4 unprotected picks, 3 swaps, Harrison Barnes, and Davion Mitchell

No, they would have to make their 2024 1st unprotected to Atlanta first.

Nah, you just take the part that’s protected and have it convey to us, then have further provisions given that scenario with the rest of them. But I haven’t thought about it so I’ll see myself out.

That’s terrible lol.
My idea was was saying that they need to make the pick they traded unprotected, but instead have the protected part come to us, but I guess it doesn’t address the compensation to whoever they traded the pick to on the subsequent years.
