Norm Chow to Hawaii.

Crazy, I think he is basically retiring in Hawaii and found a part time job.

So who will be the next OC at Utah?

This bums me out big time. Chow is obviously past his prime when it comes to X's and O's, but I felt his hiring was huge for Utah and their Offensive recruiting. The Chow name still carries alot of cache with 4 and 5 star QB's. I hope Travis Wilson's committment doesn't waiver with Chow leaving. The same could be said about Chase Hansen. If Utah replaces him with one of the offensive coaches currently on staff, that makes it even worse IMO.

I don't think Chow could have been any worse this season. I'm glad he is leaving.

Hopefully Utah's offense puts up big numbers with a freshman QB next year. If that happens, recruiting should be just fine going forward.

I think Dave Schramm and Aaron Roderick did just fine calling the plays before Chow got here. If the Utes go with them again, fine by me. If a bigger name is hired, also fine by me.

Chow came in and used his established recruiting avenues to basically introduce Utah to the Pac 12. Well done. The Utah coaching staff no doubt has relationships with high school coaches that they never had relationships with in the past. But now that the relationships are in place, no need to keep Chow and his horrid play calling around.

Keeping Chow around would hurt the Utes long term. A stud QB would probably look at Utah and think, "Do I really want to go to the worst offense in the nation?" Chow had a big name back in the day, but how many high school juniors (and younger) are even old enough to remember Chow's glory days? And outside of some BYU fans, how many have parents who even care about Chow's glory days?

In addition to all of that, I think Utah would be on the hook for a pretty big salary this season if Chow stuck around.

All in all, I'm glad he came to Utah, but it was time for him to go. He did what he came to do (introduce Utah to the Pac 12 recruiting avenues) and was only hurting the team if he stayed any longer. Props to him and the University for handling this situation with class and dignity.

Chow wanting Sitake and Chow actually getting Sitake are worlds apart. Why would the DC of a Pac12 school make a lateral move to a WAC school? I also dont see Hawaii paying him as much. It really doesnt make sense on any level.

I agree, unless there is something under the surface we don't know about. Maybe Sitake and Kyle don't get along or maybe there is the promise that Norm is a short-timer as HC and Sitake is being groomed as his successor.

Sitake is from Hawaii though so you never know.

I know if I had a choice of working a fall/winter job in sunny Hawaii, doing what I love, and getting paid a crapload of money for it, or doing the same thing in cold and snowy Utah for even more money, I'd probably choose Hawaii. Especially if all my family and friends lived out there.

If Chow takes Sitake with him to Hawaii. Then the hiring of Chow by Whittingham should be considered a major mistake. It is already a mistake IMO. But Chow coming over, then leaving before his name even has a chance to be much help, And stealing a good DC from us. To me screams major mistake.

Our offense last year was worse than any year I can remember. Norm Chow was the leader of the worst offense at Utah in a long time. How can the hiring not be seen as a mistake?

So long Chow, it was Sitake who i was more worried about taking the Hawaii job, hopefully he'll be back.

Chow is a big name and might hurt recruiting but he just wasn't getting it done, I look forward to see who we replace him with.

As a Hawaii alum and fan, this is a great day for UH Football. It would be a major score for us if Sitake would come along Chow, but I highly doubt it.

I've heard rumors on various UH Football message boards that Sitake could come along knowing that Chow probably doesn't have THAT many more years in him, so Sitake might be in a Head-Coach in Waiting situation. Who knows?

I'm just glad we got rid of that clown of a head coach Greg McMackin, he was a disaster...

It seems the opinion of the Chow hiring has changed a great deal in less than a year.
It changed sooner than that. Plenty of Ute fans have been calling for his head since about the 4th week of the season. He sucks.

We were hopeful he wasn't completely washed up. When the facts proved otherwise, our opinions of him changed.

I guess I didn't really pay that close attention to it, but it hit me as I was reading this thread.
I honestly didn't think he would be that good, but who knows what will happen when the scenery changes.
