Lakers-Jazz Trade

A couple thoughts…

- We gave away leverage in the Beverley deal.

- If they’re offering a first and a swap, then give them their matching salary and then we’ll send the other guys elsewhere.
On the pod he talked about how they really wanted Pat. If that deal wasn't a down payment we really should have waited and snuck some second rounders at least.

I am giving up on down payment theory and adopting weird *** trade theory... we made a weird *** trade.

I think the Jazz cave to the Lakers for that 1 pick.

They can deal Bogey to another team for a late 2023, but why?

If there is an opportunity to stockpile later picks then do it. We dont need draft picks, we need far off trade assets we can use to get a star in a trade.
I think we can settle in on a pick and a swap. Fisher mentioned that was a possibility and they kicked it around. I'd prefer the Lakers pick but it sounds like Bogey's market is pretty wide... it should be. So maybe we get a solid first plus something elsewhere.

I may be in the minority, but I think the Lakers are just fronting. They are are going to blink before the Jazz do.

There is zero pressure on the Jazz.
Yes and no... I agree there is way more pressure on the Lakers here as they basically can't do a straight expiring swap for Russ and are stuck with him or taking on salary if we move on... We do have some pressure though. Bogey is on an expiring contract and you will get the most value for him before the season starts. So there is an expiration date at some point here.

We've been talking about this trade for quite some time around here. Did our FO not have any foresight on this? How do we make a trade before hand that delivers to them what they want? Had the idea of us taking Westbrook as a salary dump not entered their minds at that point?

There is only one rational explanation... there is also an irrational and debunked theory that I can't discuss.

The rational explanation - the think THT is good or will be. I completely disagree... I definitely don't think he is some hot commodity we needed to make a move for when we did. I think his value was quite low.

The Bucks pick in 2025 from the Knicks would also be decent.

I think it's NYK or LA at this point.

I would still put my money on NYK if I had to because I dont think the Jazz want to go into the season w/ Bogey, so they might just want to get it done.

There is multiple problems with the THT acquisition.

First is his player option next year. If he did have a breakout season he opts out and we could lose him.

Second is he needs the ball a lot to be effective and with the Sexton addition he will be relegated to a bench role most likely. Are we planning on him being our JC replacement? What if we don’t trade JC?

Third is we took on an extra player for no reason other than to make the salary work. We may be able to consolidate though but it’s just unnecessary.

Fourth is what if he just sucks and opts in next year and we are paying him for nothing.

You aren’t very good at realistic predictions.

It would be funny if we got tired of the Lakers not committing and swung a deal with the Knicks.

Can the Jazz include Sexton in the trade?

I'd include him instead of Conley if it meant getting both picks tbh.

What's your prediction bud or are you just going to give a possibility for each team then claim you were right when you didnt commit to anything?

My role in these discussions is to be rational and also be the salary cap/rules guy. I love throwing potential deals out there for the discussion and because it’s ****ing fun.

With this being said, Dallas and New York do not make any sense.

If I had to choose I would say Miami ponies up with a nice offer for Bogey.

How does NYK make no sense?

They have a ton of picks and they have an expiring contract that matches Bogey...

I think I will change my vote to Phoenix. Its the cleanest deal. They can give a 2024 first so we can spread stuff out a bit.

I just simply can’t fathom the Jazz/Knicks hopping back on the phones to hammer out a Bogey deal after all of the spinning and ******** Leon Rose has pulled. I truly think there is some bad blood there.

Secondly, if their goal is to play their young players why would they trade assets for Bogey?

Third, why would they trade an expiring plus an asset for Bogey who’s expiring when they’re not in win-now mode?

I promise you both sides are mature enough to work out a deal if they both feel like they get what they want and mutually benefit.

They dont have any plus sized wing players. Yes, Bogey is more of a 4 than a 3, but for a team that has no depth at the wing, they could use Bogey.

The Knicks are in win now mode. They just signed Brunson. They arent in "All In" win now mode, but giving up a single 1st rounder from their huge pile of 1st rounders isnt hurting them. They proably have a strong internal desire to make the playoffs to prove that their young players are the real deal. That means playing them, but it doesnt mean not surrounding them with complimentary players.

Not to mention the Knicks really need non-ball dominant shooting.

They got Brunson/RJ/Randle all in the projected starting lineup who all need the ball and none of which are dangerous shooters. They need spacing and Bogey provides that in spades.
