There goes Beasley...... for a 2nd round pick

I'm not a big Beasley fan at all. But considering the void that was just created and the price that it cost the Wolves, I would have even said to take a chance on him, even if they had to give up 2 future 2nd rounders. But, whatever.

Who says the offer was even extended to the Jazz? If I'm Miami and I have a chance to get picks from Minnesota, why would I even bother talking to Utah?

Quit being foolish.

At the risk of being foolish, have you been following this story at all? They were turned down for Keyon Dooling and Ryan Gomes before this. They couldn't find anybody to take him off their hands for free. The pick(s) are meaningless. This is a straight dump. Anybody who wanted him with Cap Space could have had him.

Wolves spend the second rounder on a player chosen 2nd overall. And we were the ones who just lost starting PF. Ineptness of this FO is simply unbelievable.

I had a homey who, after pullin off a coup of "identity theft," bought a $95,000 Cadillac on credit. Then he totalled it and collected the insurance. It could still kinda clunk around town, though, and the tires and wheels had some value, so when the repo man was closin in, he "gave" it to another guy for a measly $500. A few days later it got repossessed. Course my homey never guaranteed the guy it wouldn't be, so....

What BS. Beasley is just 21 years old putting up 15 and 6. You compare that to "kinda clunk around town." If 21 years old putting up 15 and 6 is "kinda clunk around town", what's you assessment of our roster after DWill?

Beasley is a cupcake. He hasn't been tough enough to be a solid PF. Why do you think Miami was entertaining offers 1 year after he was drafted. I think he'll have a career similar to that of Drew Gooden. A decent PF, but never one who is reliable enough to be one of the "stars" on a franchise.

Minnesota and Utah aren't the only two teams in the league. Everybody knew Beasley was "available" at some price. These teams have private investigators and access to many other reliable sources of information that message board posters don't have. Why couldn't Miami get more? There must be *some* reason his market value is virtually zero, eh?

Perhaps reports of his mental instability (suicidal) and drug useage have sumthin to do with it? Who knows? Not me. But I'm sure yawl do, so mebbe ya could clue me in, eh?

Miami was entertaining offers because they were clearing CAP to get the guys they just got. For same reason Bulls gave up picks, Thomas, Hinrich for nothing - a chance to land James/Wade/Bosh. Now they did and cleared the CAP to give them MAX or near MAX offers. As far as Beasley not being tough, he is just 21 years old. Many top draft picks this year are similar age as him or older and are putting up inferior numbers in College as he did last year on a play-off team. Certainly worth a second round pick, don't you think?

I wouldn't touch him with a 10-ft bong. And it's essentially giving up two picks. Miami switches 1st-rounders, so they get a lottery pick in exchange for giving Minnesota a pick that could very well be 29th or 30th.

I wonder if Borat was one of those in the minority who thought Chicago was smart for takin Rose over Beasley? I suspect not, or we woulda heard about it by now, ya know?

Rose was consensus #1 choice, I never questioned it. So, you are wrong yet again here. You are by the way becoming quite predictable. Never a difference of opinion with Jazz coaching/management/front office. All is perfect in Jazz world, eh?

Everyone stop complaining and research what the trade was. Our first round pick is not nearly as good as the Wolves.

I am sure it is protected for the first couple of years. But we did not have what it takes to get him.

It was not a salary dump. And the Beasley trade for Dooling was proven wrong and it was total speculation.

Rose was consensus #1 choice

Consensus, eh? Too bad no one told Paxson:

Rose tries to sway Bulls into drafting him ahead of ... Beasley By Andy Katz ESPN.com

Derrick Rose desperately wants to be the face of his hometown Chicago Bulls. He's not hiding his feelings one bit. If the Bulls don't draft him with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft next Thursday, he said he'll be crushed. Rarely has a potential No. 1 pick politicked as much as the one-season Memphis freshman point guard, who played at Chicago's Simeon Career Academy. The last hometown star to be drafted No. 1 was Akron's LeBron James, to Cleveland in 2003. But James did not have to convince the Cavs to take him -- he was going to be first pick the moment the Cavs won the draft lottery.

"It's a tough decision because I think Michael will come into the league and score," Paxson said. "That's what he does. Derrick can come in and have an effect on games without scoring. You're looking at what fits for how you want to shape your roster for the future."

Representatives for both Beasley and Rose have told ESPN.com their client will be taken with the No. 1 pick. So far they have had no reason to waver.

"Both guys are going to be terrific NBA players," Paxson said. "We were looking at being at nine [in the draft lottery] and we end up at No. 1. We count our blessings and whatever we do we can't go wrong."

And? Which mock drafts had Beasley #1 on draft night?

Any time now, I assume?

That is a good point. The title of the thread says he was traded for a second rounder, but looks like it needs to be corrected. Beasley trade gets Miami a lottery pick (second rounder for Minnesota is not that much worse than Miami's first rounder). The way things are today, Wolves would get Miami top 5 pick. Of course that may change by the time they get the pick, but they are not making playoffs any time soon after winning 15 games last year - even with Beasley. So, top 10 pick at least is pretty much guaranteed. Now, that does make more sense. There is not much KOC could do here, since Miami did not want any salary back, but only picks.

Hopper, looks like Beasley is worth a bit more than you thought, eh?

"What’s it like to feel unwanted? Ask Michael Beasley. Miami has been doing whatever they can to rid themselves of his contract for the past year or so, and no one seems to want him." https://dimemag.com/2010/07/toronto-doesnt-want-michael-beasley/

"The Miami Heat quickly followed up their triumph in the LeBron James sweepstakes by finding a taker for Michael Beasley. But they had to virtually give away the No. 2 overall pick from the 2008 draft to do so. To complete the trade, Minnesota must only part with a 2011 second-round pick to acquire Beasley. The teams have also agreed to a swap of unspecified future first-round picks." https://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5365794

Where are you gittin the "lottery pick" conclusion out of "unspecified picks?" I don't know the details of this deal, and can't find anyone who does right now. My only point here was that Beasley was not simply offered to either Utah or Minnesota, and no one else. and that chances were that maybe KOC wasn't as incompetent as you insisted, a point you seem to have now conceded:

There is not much KOC could do here

Perhaps a price tag had something to do with it? It sure took Miami less than an hour to trade Beasley for a lottery pick (swapping picks with Minnesota means they get lottery, no?). And that's why I said KOC was not incompetent, since original report was 2nd rounder only, now it seems lottery pick was needed. The incompetent part was not willing to beat second round pick Wolves were originally reported to give to Heat. Something that turned out to be false, since it was more than 2nd rounder, but you actually defended when you thought it was true. In other words, you completely misjudged value of Beasley and just blindly defended our FO.
