I would cut the guys the team would owe the least amount of money to. After it's all about the owner's wallet.

Easy for you to say as it’s not your Twelve million dollar investment.

I’m with you btw, from the outside looking in. The mere thought of that Dick eating up development minutes makes me want to quit following live games.

Maybe it has something to do with Zach Lowe’s insulting assessment:
Its really the additional $6.8M next year that is the real cost... No one will take Gay into a trade exception... so this year's 6M is a sunk cost.

If he plays like he has in preseason his trade value won't increase at all... no need to throw away those minutes because of a sunk cost.

Don’t you have to pay them anyway? If so, it would be better to just cut whoever you don’t want on your team.

Perfectly good logic! However, the reason it’s referred to as a sunk cost fallacy is because people don’t tend to think logically when there’s invested money involved.

I would waive Dok and offer him a spot on the Stars and tell him if there is a trade then who knows. I would also waive Butler because hurting the PG depth will help the tank and backup point guards are replaceable.

I wish it were that easy so we could say goodbye to Gay.

With that said if they cut Gay's $6mil ($12+mil over 2 years) or NAW's $5mil for this season then it becomes dead money. If they keep them on the roster they can combine their salary with another player to maybe bring back an asset or two. In Gay's case he's such a negative asset he would severely destroy any other value going out. Personally I'd try to buy him out even if Gay only gives back $3mil on the $12 they owe him. That contract wasn't a Danny Ainge mistake so maybe he could sell it to Smith that way. Ofc the team is going to be so bad maybe Smith isn't willing to eat Gay's salary. These guys don't become billionaires by typically doing that kind of stuff.

As a rebuilding team I'd much rather have the younger player Bolmaro as the 15th guy who at least has some degree of potential as this squad obviously needs an infusion of talent. Unfortunately looks like he's getting the ax.

Cut Butler it would destroy the ability to rest Conley and would cause the maximum chaos to the team. Next year you can find a another backup scrub.

He's another key cog to the tank. To rest Conley you need to have an excuse... we are trying to find minutes for JB and Mike is a little nicked up... it helps preserve Mikes value too... rested Mike will put up better numbers (the Al Horford effect).

Hopefully we can get Mike's buy in to rest him as much as possible and in turn we agree not to trade him to some ****** situation he wouldn't like.

Cut Dok and it also depletes center depth and rim protection which means more losses. We can have a good offense but it becomes pointless if our rim protection is the worst in the league that stat would lead to the worst record.. Centers are now easier to pick up. Get one next year.
