What's new

Jeremy Evans now equals Stromile Swift

Nice call Fresh Prince, but we all know Evans will never reach Stromile Status without a signature post dunk secret sauce.

He should incorporate a sign soon. He'll be cramming it on people in the NBA for a very long time... I hope for the Jazz.

I like to compare Evans more to a "Bo Outlaw w/hands" than Swift because - like Outlaw - Evans can impact a game more than with just a spetacular dunk. He can block shots from the weakside, is all over the offensive boards, actually gives maximum effort defensively and understands his limitations offensively. Swift was really just a dunker and a shotblocker who didn't care much about the stuff in between (playing defense, rebounding) and thought he was better offensively than he was (ie. taking the midrange jumpshots).

As an off-the-bench PF, some matchups could keep him off the floor but other times he could have a huge impact w/our 2nd unit when other teams go small - like Monday when Portland started Wallace at PF and later played Batum at PF (previously Travis Outlaw played PF w/Portland's bench and caused Utah a ton of problems). In 2011-12 Evans can be effective in that role - as well as against teams like Portland who go small w/their bench.

You guys seem to think he'll get minutes, so who's spot does he take on the active roster? Corbin will keep Okur and Bell even though we don't want him too and Tinsley looked good enough to keep as a 3rd point guard(Even though I think a 3rd point is un-necessary), so I bet its a Kanter-Evans battle for the 12th man on the active roster

It is a Kanter/Evans battle. Evans loses, but is reminded that it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or needs a day off.

Also why I incorped him with a Stro comparison on this time. Swift was a 15 mpg player in his 02-06 days. Evans deserves that amount of time definitely. Swift had the ability in Memphis to get his team pumped with one play. Over the tenure in the NBA I will say that Stro did establish some post moves from off of a 1st step that would be totally unexpected from him. You can see evidence in what he did to Paculia alongside Josh Smith. Dwight Howard's rookie season. The tape shows it clear cut. Evans lacks or has yet to show that right there. If he can face up, and penetrate with a 1 st step on his man he can put a hurting on a lot of players. The PF position lacks post intangibles these days.
