Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

The Bogey trade was still mystifying to me, and I was someone who has always been high on Kelly. I just didn't think it made sense for the Jazz to go for wins at the time. PHX and NYK were infinitely more reasonable destinations for Bogey and they had more reasonable assets to send back to UTA. I also think if we held onto Bogey we could make a convincing offer for the Kuminga/Wiseman types. I still think Kelly is a good player and he's obviously played really well so far, but what was everyone doing? I feel like none of UTA/DET/PHX/NYK and other buyers were acting rationally.
I also think we got a little high on Vando... I think if we really had to dig in and to get a first you had to give up Vando and Bogey you do it. Likely get some seconds when you flip Crowder too.

Getting Kelly is the straw that broke the tank's back. It was a good competent vet at our biggest position of need. Truly fought against the tank.

Collins is mildly intriguing (its a big contract) but if the price is some of our vets... and the plan is not to tank... then okay. Fit is a little wonky with Lauri but they are both kinda flexibly so maybe its surprisingly effective?

I'm interested to see what it might look like with Collins in Vando spot in the starting lineup... all those dribble handoffs get a little more interesting.

We should be opportunistic but I'm skill leaning towards team tank.

Watching Spurs Kings last night I became more intrigued with Isiah Roby. He's shooting 40% from three right now and it looked super confident and smooth. No reason for Spurs to move him unless tanking... but he's a FA and the type of frontcourt guy that would be very nice to plug into the lineup.

Yeah, honestly Vando might actually suck. His best quality is that he raises the collective effort level, but he is a disappointment on defense.

I'm not fully onboard with that opinion though. Maybe he is actually good, idk.

Suck is harsh... My stance has always been he is more Bo Outlaw than Dennis Rodman. He's a 20 minute a night energy big. The corner three makes him slightly more interesting... but people somehow got the impression he could handle the ball and stuff. He can string a few dribbles together but none of them are productive dribbles. He's not great finishing around the rim.

His biggest value is that he can be an effective rotation player for a playoff team at a good price. That value goes away on his next deal.

I’m with the sentiment here. I don’t think he’s nearly as good as people think. I would move him for a first without thinking twice.

The biggest disappointment is that his individual defense is really mediocre

I could see that in the pre-season but he was getting a ton of steals early... that seems to have tapered off.

He also passes up on an astonishing amount of layups. He will get an offensive rebound and instead of finishing it he passes out to the three.
He did that a few times last game... generally I am okay with it but you also have to see if a layup is available. He's not a great finisher so a kick out might be the best default... but sometimes just go ahead and take the quick layup.

To his credit I think his corner three shooting is real... not real in that he will hit like 50% but 40%-ish.
