RealGM reports Jazz interested in Trading for John Collins

Oh and about that JC vs JV.. Im not sure... I see JC more of an option over KO that brings additional pressure to paint as well as the outside pressure once he gets his stroke back.

We lose KO passing and hustle, but we gain more paint pressure, rebounds and blocks.

We need JV for the energy role in that case.

Im still not sold on JC though, as he has been rough and inconsistent this year.
If JC is tired of playing with Tre he probably wants more diversified touches. He'd be in that 3/4/5 role where basically all of them are interchangeable and do a bit of everything. JC has the potential to be a higher energy/effort player. He has always gotten good block and rebound numbers. I know his defensive rep is not great, but I havent seem enough to say how bad it is.

Yeah thats a good point. He is more versatile and more interchangable which allows us to give Kessler more minutes and rotate our bigs easier (KO + Kessler is a combo I dont like against teams with fast wings).

I havent seen him enough this year to judge his current for or defense much outside of his numbers.

Beasley is still super young….totally agree here. He is and should be viewed as a very strong plus asset
I would not be surprised if he led the league in 3 point shooting at some point. His shot is so deadly. Hope he can find his way into the 3 point competition at the all star game this season.

Like if you put JC in the JV role could that work? It's be much better spacing.

The thing is tho the way Collins plays should be super productive with those kind of guards.

Maybe he'd be a better in a ball movement system with more playmaking touches, but he has never really done that. It'd be interesting to see what a trio of Collins, Lauri, and KO could do. Having a player with Collins offensive talent in JVs slot could be lethal.
Guys that are that ball dominant I think are counterproductive at times. I think his production, motivation, and such could perk up in our system. I think there is value to having guys touch the ball even if they aren’t shooting it and using a possession. That said he makes 100M over 4 years, has durability issues and I’m not sure how well it would work.

I wish we could try it before we buy it… can we rent him for a few weeks?

He’d never win the three point competition because he’d shimmy and talk **** after every make. Wouldn’t get through the first rack.

Atl just isn’t for him. Not gonna lie, I’ve always wanted to see Collins in a jazz uni. Doesn’t look sexy but don’t knock it.. atl would probably want a lot even though he’s under performing there.
You’d have to really think you can unlock some missed potential though. He’s having a trash season and you’d be signing up for 3.5 years at $25m.
That can look like a deal with all the new money coming soon. Still think atl isn’t for him. There’s still some levels to unlock

Hold it till next summer when Conley would become an expiring with his last year being partially guaranteed. Save Atlanta tons of money and allow them to clear cap space in 2024 to pursue another big name FA. We get Collins and possibly a couple of second rounders as sweetener

I think Collins is at least partially a victim of The Chucker. If I was a pro basketball player the guy I would least wanna play with would be either Luka or Trae.

Luka plays more solo ball but at least he takes somewhat reasonable shots. Imagine watching Trae chuck contested off balance 3s from 30ft out while you haven touched the ball in the last 3 minutes on offense.
Yep. People think because Trae averages so many assists he would be fun to play with but I really don't think that is the case.

Well, he is shooting 22% from three this year.

Their team is a mess. Two ball dominant guards who are shooting 30% from three, one big who is only a lob threat (Capella) and Collins who is best served as a lob threat but is parked in a corner where like you say he is shooting terribly. No idea why they chose Huerter to be the guy to sacrifice for salary cap reasons.

Given his contract and the fact they are locked into the roster they have, Collins value is incredibly low. A good buy low candidate although I'm not sure of the long term fit.

Any trade for John Martin Collins 3 should be abrogated. When he throws the ball at the goal from the 3 point line, it only enters at a rate of 22 percent. For an empiricist, a scientist, this is unacceptable! Throw him back to Trae Young! Watch them in Atlanta pay millions of dollars for deficient players.

Oh, so the Jazz are buyers now? Hawks are going to ask for draft capital.

That said, if I were John Collins, I'd rather have Mike Conley setting me up than watch Trae Young hoist from 30 feet.

Yet have a pretty good record somehow. 9-6 and 3rd seed in the eastern conference.

He's a career 35ish percent...
