We Got Swindled by Sexton (And Eddie Zero Sucks)

Sexton has a 20 point / 5 assist night with only 2 turnovers on 11 shots. He has played great for the past three games.

Time to own that you might have been very wrong and not doubling down on senseless takes.

Now if you want to talk about our defense, rebounding, or shooting of other players then we will have a productive conversation.

THT is fat and clumsy (Not sure why people try to talk him up). Sexton is small and seems to have low IQ. Both need work but THT's saving grace for now is that he is young. Both need to put in consistent effort to improve. However, there is potential there and that is what matters for now. If our coaching staff can get them both to a point where they are well valued by other teams, then we would have done well.

Sexton has been playing better and you have to give him credit for that. I certainly can't say he has been the reason for the losses (everybody on the team has weaknesses which have become more apparent). I personally still find his style of play incredibly annoying though. He does many things which drive me mental when I am playing basketball and are to the detriment of the team.

- Holding the ball too long and missing mismatches early. By the time he notices its too late and the offensive movement completely stops.
- Not advancing the ball with a pass early enough and coming back for the ball. This one particularly drives me crazy when I play. If somebody is already bringing the ball up the middle (and no pressure) don't come back towards the ball clapping your hands. Run the lane. Then if you are the one with the ball, if somebody is open on the wing for a drive, pass it early. Don't slow the game down by dribbling it up.
- High intensity, low intelligence defence. Clapping your hands, getting right up on somebody who is not even in the play yet. Then getting caught on every single screen because you have no court awareness.

In general I think he is a player that doesn't yet understand that you don't have to be the one directly doing something. Eg, if somebody has a mismatch in the paint and you are at the top, don't force a straight pass. Flip it to the wing and let them pass it in. You see somebody open early on the break, give it up and then run. You don't have to drive it right into the rim for a dump off. If he doesn't develop the understanding for that, he should be used as a 6th man.

Nailed it. Welcome new member
Or alter Nick?

Clapping your hands was dumb. Even the over reaction after he was fouled by Booker wasn't a momentum changing basket. The stolen pass was actually jc asking the ball on the wing so he could pass to lauri for a mismatch. But instead Sexton passed straight so it was tipped and stolen. Jc was frustrated after the play. Also Sexton need to learn how to maneuver around the pick. Olynyk would set a screen but Sexton was a bit far his defender stayed right in front of him. Nothing happened. It's like he can't execute a team play properly. He's good at drive and drop pass tho and he can score. but those point guard duties he's not there yet.

Lauri,

Just tell him directly.

Well said

Lauri,

Just tell him directly.

I should say, I am not really a Lauri fanboy, which I'm sure you have plenty of joining the forum :D I did originally start watching Utah this year due to him (on my fantasy team), but stuck with watching the Jazz due to the style of play. The NBA is so guard iso heavy I was looking for a new team to follow which was different. Last year it was the Cavs, not because of Lauri (who was mediocre) but because the entire team was sharing the ball and getting involved on both ends of the court. They traded for Levert which was awful for the style of play, and then they obviously made the trade for Donovan which killed my interest. It was likely the right trade to make and they will be a more dangerous team, but I just don't find it enjoyable to watch.

Just some explanation for my dislike for Sexton :)

Sexton haters going to double down all season, go for it, you will just make yourself look dumber. Sexton is a dog and plays with more energy than anyone on the team, even Lauri could use some Sexton blood transfusion sometimes. Sexton is doing great, still makes a mistake here or there but everyone on the team does that. He should be far from the whipping boy but some will just go down with the hate ship instead of admitting they were wrong about the kid. ps. Sexton has forgot more about basketball than any of us will ever know

It makes me laugh that they only look at his flaws. It’s also hilarious that people are like “he should be a sixth man type”. He is/was but sometimes an injury creates a new temporary role. He steps up and plays well in that role and it’s just a lot of “yeah, but”… THT isn’t better and it’s not really close… he dribbles more and into just as much bull **** as Sexton but isn’t nearly as efficient as a scorer.

Collin gonna be here a while… folks should embrace the fun.

I noticed Lauri seems to have quite a group of enabling fans that follow him from team to team. Their main goal is to make excuses for Lauri while criticizing his teammates at every stop. They were especially annoying when he was struggling in Chicago and Lavine was their main target.

You don't see Luka with such a pack of fans who need to make excuses for him when the team loses despite the fact he has the worst teammates in the league.

If Sexton plays great and continues to develop it's great for our team in many potential ways. Apparently some are too dim to understand or are too busy with other agendas on this forum.
Criticizing someone for clapping their hands? I've seen it all now.

No need to bring Lauri into this. He is a really good player and the bulls completely screwed up his development.

For clarification I was bringing up his fans and specifically not Lauri. Ofc he's a good player.

I just get triggered because a young black man gets excited during the game, shows emotion, and claps his hands. Now he gets criticized for it.

Is it any wonder our young black stars have taken the money and then immediately look for an exit. As soon as Don expressed himself off the court people wanted his head.
Now some fans have chased Tony off this forum too.

Sorry to to go off on a tangent. It just infuriates me and might just need to take a long break from JF.

Good lord man no one is doubling down. We have critiques if Sexton. A good stretch of games doesn't erase those. We have given him credit for his good play.

That's what happens to off ball players who play with lackluster on ball players

I think the likely outcome is that Sexton becomes the starter either this year or next year, we tank until then, then sell high on his value as he will have solid stats. So we will keep Sexton on as ta k Commander until we are ready to put together a real team.

Unless the team starts winning again, or they can't find a buyer for the vets that seems likely and probably the best route for the team.

As a neutral who just enjoys watching team basketball I would like to see him be used as a 6th man. He can be an efficient scorer and leading the second unit removes the shackles a bit in terms of having to get others involved. Put him next to a tall defensive PG or wing and it will help cover for some of his weaknesses. 17-18mil for a 6th man doesn't seem too outrageous. If you compare his numbers to somebody like Tyler Herro they are not a million miles apart and Tyler will be getting 10mil more per year.
