What's new

Guys, I don't think Ainge planned to tank...

This seemed like the most appopriate thread to mention that here is apparently a full hour interview with Danny Ainge. Haven't had yet a chance to watch it myself so not exactly sure what it's about.

Edit: Jazz stuff begin at ~43 mins into the video. Just a quick chat about Donovan and Rudy trades and the outcome. This is mainly about Danny himself.

I like the fact that this thread was bumped. I think its a good moment to revisit the plan.

In hindsight, the DA comments about the goal being "to see who we have" and "not losing intentionally" seem accurate and honest. Also the "we might be buyers" and "being opportunistic" remarks seem honest, considering we have definitely been calling to others. Atlanta has never indicated they are willing to add a pick to that trade, yet DA keeps calling them back. And now that Rui supposedly became available, guess who was among to first to reportedly call them..

So obviously better fit or upgrade at PF is on the books. I have speculated about PG being another position they look to upgrade, but might be wrong in that since there is no indication about us calling around about PGs, albeit that could be because there hasn't been any PG good enough who has been reportedly available.

The nice thing is that we will have a clear picture on what direction we want to go by Feb 9th. It can't come soon enough right now. I'm constantly checking to see throughout the day if that first trade domino has dropped. Usually everything starts to happen closer to the deadline but this year with everyone so bunched together I wouldn't be surprised if it happens sooner with teams looking to make a deal earlier with the hope of gaining momentum now.

The same people reporting we are most likely to be sellers though, are the same fools that said we would be tanking and one of the worst teams in the league this season.
Not sold we do much besides try to get an upgrade using one or two draft assets with JC expiring PO or Beasley's TO.
I do think there is a slim chance someone offers an overpay to Ainge for JC or Beasley that gets something done. I don't however think it will be for picks as the only motivation like those same reports assume, unless they are future picks specifically next year.
