2023 NBA Draft Megathread

i think we are in agreement. i like the idea of drafting a high potential guy like Lively at the end of the first round - the point being each pick should be judged in it's own, considering the prospect himself, who is still on the board, etc, - rather than just don't draft a back up center because we've been burned by Bradley and Dok.
Not sure why anyone thinks Lively is a high upside option. wingspan? I mean I guess he could become something more than Fab Melo did but I aint seeing anything much at all with him besides a bust

wingspan, athleticism. he's a 7'1 athlete who can run the floor and get on top of the rim and has been extremely productive as a shot-blocker as a freshman (his block % is elite). his potential as a shot blocker and rim runner is very high.

Also... are we sure the new Duke coach is any good?

If you landed Nerlens Noel or Jarret Allen or a player in either of those molds with the #27 then its still a good play even with Walker on the roster. If Colby Jones, Jordan Hawkins, Sidy, Bilal, Leonard Miller were still there and you went with a center I would think its a bad use of an asset. Walker isn't as established as Rudy was when we drafted Doke and Bradley. We also don't have to be really good next year... so you could develop two big men... I'm not advocating for it... but I won't throw a baby fit like I did when we took Dok. I hated the Bradley pick at the time as well... but we had just taken Don so I didn't cry as hard as I could have.

The not having a pick next year makes me think along these same lines.

Dudes on rookie deals are so valuable. Not ideal having 3 in the same draft since that causes problems if 2-3 really hit with cap/salary implications at the same time but a great problem to have especially vs less dudes overall.
I would not be surprised to see the Philly pick moved for a pick next year. Someone will slip and teams will want to move up to get them.

I guess , and someone will probably talk themselves into it late first early 2nd.
I like the idea of picking up a mid 2nd if he is still around though and then I am good with it, because he will have a chip at that point. He aint got one right now, he looks entitled and will probably be one of these kids that thinks he's getting a green room invite right until he does not smh

Maybe. But if someone slips, maybe the Jazz should just take him themselves. I also would not be surprised if the Jazz trade Olynyk for Duncan Robinson and an asset at some point this offseason.

no gm ever knows the mind of any prospect, well enough, to confidently assume they have enough information, outside of proven skillsets in high floor options, to not consider the draft a crap-shoot after the sure fire high potential options are history.
No pick, after the higher tiers, outside of one used on a higher floor 3-5 year college player, is ever without risk that that kid won't develop no matter how much opportunity you give them either.

Except the Jazz had Dok at the top of their draft board, so they did pick the best available according to them. So, maybe not always.
Udoka was always going to have struggles with conditioning. No GM should ignore that type of thing, but there is always one that does based on the college production game.
He still has a small window of opportunity to be a end of roster type enforcer on the cheap. Was he worth a first rounder, nope.
