We don’t get the Lakers first without them giving up Russell. The Lakers obviously wouldn’t have done it with Conley instead or else we would have just dealt directly with them.
They facilitated the trade brother. Without them the Lakers don't give the Jazz ****
They gave up what most would consider the best player in the deal that was the one the Lakers wanted most; we got the best asset in the trade by a light year.
I wish it was better and I’m confident the Jazz could’ve gotten better before the season with Bogey (I think Ainge was demanding both Laker picks). Oh well. If the question is whether we do the trade deadline deal or not as a straight binary, I do the trade 8 days a week.

When you're asset rich and teams know what you want, they are going to squeeze you. You got to accept it to an extent or you are just going to sit on your assets and have them expire/devalue.
We squeezed Minny on the Gobert trade and they returned the favor to a far lesser degree.

Exactly. Without Minnesota there is no deal and they knew that. They squeezed NAW and seconds out of us to get it done.
LA had the most pressure to get it done. LA should have, at the very least, forwarded our down payment to Minnesota.

In addition to the other stuff people mentioned. We got 24M in cap space next year out of the deal. It isn't a great deal but it was good enough to suit our purpose (to tank the effs outta this mutha!!!)

I haven’t seen him take many tbh. If anybody can teach him though it’s got to be Jet and Horny!
It seems like we’ve turned into a finishing school for itinerant fringe prospects. Hopefully, this time we’re not preparing him for somebody else cause he’s already way ahead of any college prospect we might get in the draft and dam it I want to compete next season and no good reason why with our talent, we shouldn’t be IMO.

They had the most pressure but were giving up the most valuable asset in the deal. We had the least leverage out of any team in the deal.

It has to do with the discussion that was taking place. Numb said "Granted, the Timberwolves have a lot of head room for a guy that is positive, energetic, and a professional, but it sounds like that is most of what he's bringing. I was saying that they actually fleeced us for more than just NAW. They received NAW, conley, and draft compensation and gave us nothing at all. Was just pointing out that it was more than just NAW. In fact, imo conley was the higher value piece that they received in the trade.

I actually think that mike conley (an all star) vando and beasley (two starters) and NAW (backup point guard) and draft picks and taking bad salary is more valuable than a protected first is likely to be. I doubt that pick even turns into a player as good as conley much less a player as good as conley and 3 other dudes and a draft compensation and salary relief.
Also think that what the lakers received (D-lo, vando, and beasley and salary cap relief) is more valuable than the protected first. Of course there is no way to know that until the draft pick conveys and we know what that player looks like.
It’s not known who really had the most pressure. The Timberwolves are a disaster relative to their investments and expectations, as were the Jazz since everyone in this reality knew they cared more about their pick this year than winning.

And you have to add anyone the Jazz sign this summer, because that was part of the deal too.
Or contract(s) absorbed (and maybe assets with that).
I personally would find it just dandy to absorb Lonzo Ball since the Jazz could be a mile under the salary floor and he is pretty damn good at winning basketball since he seems to be most of the difference between them looking like dark horse contenders and absolute rubbish.
