2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Would your drafting strategy change for the Wolves pick if we got Wemby?

For instance: if you had to take one of NSJ or Hendricks, who would you select in a vacuum? Would that change with Wemby considering we would be starting Lauri/Kessler/Wemby across the three front court spots?

Basically would having 3 guaranteed front court starters make you shift emphasis to finding ball-handlers/creators.
Not for me it wouldn’t. I think it’ll be easier to add those ball handlers/creators via free agency or trade than it would be to find dynamic wings and/or 4/5’s that can really shoot. I think those guys are going to have to come in the draft, so I’d take as many shots at finding one to develop.

Plus, I think the Jazz need to have more roster flexibility than what they did with Mitchell/Gobert on the team. Give yourself the ability to match up in any scenarios.

I've been ripping a lot of guys for their poor finishing around the rim, but the more college basketball I watch the more blatantly obvious it is that it's just a completely different game. There are like 4-5 guys in the paint at all times between the two teams. It's just a mess. I still have question marks about the guys who are struggling to finish, but maybe I should give more credit to the guys who are performing relatively well.

Anthony Black has a really suspect jumper IMO, but half of his shots come at the rim, he gets to the line at a crazy high rate, and his percentage at the rim (59%) isn't amazing but also isn't terrible compared to the field. I worry that if the jumper doesn't come around he might not be good enough with the ball in his hands....but with more thought I think he's going to be just fine because he will get to the rim and finish well on an NBA court. It will be enough to keep him on the court, but he probably needs a big development in his shooting and/or passing to be an above average offensive PG but his defense is great.

Cason Wallace doesn't get to the rim or FT line as much, but he's shooting 68% at the rim and that's with only 9% of those baskets being assisted. I don't like making guarantees, but it's really hard to imagine him not being a really good player in the NBA. He's so solid across the board. Great at the rim, decent in the mid range, decent from 3, good form, excellent stocks, excellent AST/TO ratio, good positional size....he's got a lot to like, he's just a little boring because he doesn't have a lot of athletic burst. But if I'm to remain consistent, I often say athleticism is overrated when it comes to potential.

I'd be really pleased if we have the chance to draft either of these guys.
I’ve watched Black and it’s a lot of “the surgery was a success but the patient died” in addition to having the college clogged toilet court that team does not have shooters and on top of it I think coach has told them to keep ramming the ball to the paint. Neither Black or NSJ look at taking the three when the bigs drop off the pick and roll. Like they don’t even think about it… and I saw some quote from the coach that was like “the three isn’t our game” or. “We aren’t winning a 3 point contest”… something like that.

I think with Black he can get where he wants and go through or over the defense… it’s just so many drives and pick and rolls where the defense collapses and then a kick out becomes a pump fake and drive to nowhere. Combo of college basketball and no shooting is just so tough to evaluate what is going on.

I prolly wouldn’t draft a big but I’d also be looking at wings anyway. If Tay was there I’d draft the eff out of him regardless. I don’t think my strategy would change much but I wouldn’t even consider lively or ware with either pick.

Just take the best players possible as long as the aren’t bigs.

Thats an interesting thought, even though i refuse to try and entertain the thought of getting wemby but I will give it a shot.

With the Wolves pick I am looking for the best shooter. Right now I would be leaning towards jordan Hawkins. I dont think Dick will be available. A PG would also be a good pick and my second would be JHS. (Cason Wallace is also a great option for his defense) those would be the top 3

With the last pick i am looking for a solid 3 and D but I will say Sidy and Bilal are options here. If I got dick or Hawkins with the wolves I would be looking for the pg and there are some good options

The Jazz would probably want a big guard or wing to get Wemby the ball where he likes it. The draft isn't the only way to get that player, but I could see the Jazz going with Hood-Schifino if they thought he and Wemby projected to be an effective tandem.

Sidy's slick passes lately have really opened me up to including him up there for me with my love of Tay Hen.

Sidy next to Lauri and Kessler, with his passing ability, does so much for this team going forward. His court vision and facilitation ability, at his size/position is SO valuable. And then layer in his elite athleticism.........got damn.

Liking sidy more and more. Keeping watching more videos and he is climbing mock drafts in a hurry. 2 players i do not want under any circumstances jalen hood schifino or cason wallace. They seem slow to me, almost like playing in mud. They make tough shots but i think thats because they have to.

Sidy Cissoko's slick passes sell sea shells by the sea shore. Say that 10 times fast Boler!

2 of these late lottery to 20 and this draft was a monster for us
Hendricks
Sidy
Hawkins
anything less than 2 of them its a bust lol

Saw that Veccine brought up the Jarace Walker/Hendricks debate. Haven’t listened yet….but have to say that it is a legit comparison despite a very different consensus ranking on the two. Not that they’re the same player….but on paper it makes you think again why one is ranked so much higher than the other.

That makes me mad... I am pretty sure I invented the "Hendo > Walker" debate. Its somewhere buried in here. It also may not be true but I'd personally feel more comfortable taking Hendo than Walker.

imo Walker has bought into a very skill limited role, on arguably the best team in college basketball. I am guessing since he doesn't try to do more, he is clearly all about winning not boosting draft stock. Tough to know what he would do in a Hendricks situation where there is no Sasser or others taking your usage
