What's new

Honestly, why are we winning games at this point?

If the Jazz get more good shots than their opponent, they ought to win 90% of those games. Key is defense, limiting turnovers and getting O and D rebounds.

I'm sure this has been brought up a bunch, so sorry for beating a dead horse. But after unloading assets at the trade deadline and after a few losses a few games ago, I'm stuck with the question of why we're winning. Which is better: having a better lottery pick, or making the play-in tournament and losing right away or maybe in the first round of the playoffs, so that all of the young players and the young coach get some limited playoff experience?

I think a better lottery pick would be the way to go. If this rebuild goes right and we hit on at least a player or two in this draft (which is more likely with a higher pick) then we won't be back in this same position, even next year. This is THE draft, from what I've been hearing forever -- so why not get the very best picks you can by dropping our remaining games this season? We're not winning the title this year, so what are we doing here?
I could argue that you just lack faith in the names on our roster.

I would also love a higher pick, but also I cannot hate us winning... especially with the way all the young guys are contributing to it.

We traded 4 rotation players, including 3 starter level players, we haven't had our starting point guard since before the all star break, our starting shooting guard has missed 8 of the last 9 games, and our best player sat last night. Through it all we just keep winning. I'm not really sure what more we can do to try and lose at this point.

The tank hardliners won't be happy until we're trotting out the Stars starting lineup out there.

I’m rooting against my Jazz every game but I still admire them when they win. Some of the injuries make me wonder if they really need to sit out - and I fully support the FO decision to sit players. But here we are… it’s a fun team. They just refuse to lose.

I stopped rooting for them to lose a few weeks ago. While I maintain that trying to improve the odds of getting Victor is the best strategy for the long-term for this franchise that is clearly not the direction the team is going, so it doesn’t do me any good to fight it. Go Jazz!

I mean if look at the West with rose colored glasses we might see:

Nuggets - That team depends on Jokic. Maybe Kessler can slow him down?

Kings - Kessler's son plays here

Grizzlies - Dillon Brooks is working overtime to distract media from the actual distractions caused by Ja

Suns - If they find enough duct tape to fix KD this team will be deadly.

Clippers - Basketball retirement home

Warriors - Hey.. that was our team motto!

Mavs - If basketball was played with two balls this team would be deadly. But its not, so they are fake.

Lakers - AD and Lebron alternating injuries. Soon its ADs turn, so high 5 and switch.

OKC and Minny - Only thing to bet on is their inconsistency.

I understood it at the beginning of the season, but honestly at this point, I can’t fathom why a Jazz fan would be looking down on wins like the one we had last night.

With how things have unfolded, it’s pretty clear that the Jazz are already light years ahead on this rebuild and it’s pretty safe to say that the rest of the rebuild isn’t going to look anything like a traditional tank job.

Quin quitting on this franchise and being replaced by Will Hardy put us on a trajectory that seemed unfathomable back when it happened. The same can be said with what Laurie/Kessler/ and now Ochai have become in their short time here.

It’s not likely that both the Jazz and T’Wolves make it to the playoffs, so we should at least have one set of ping pong balls in the lottery. It would be great to have both picks in the lotto, but I’ve gotta admit that it would be pretty damn cool to see this team fight its way into the playoffs. Honestly, with the heart this squad has, if they fight their way into the postseason and get healthier, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to bet against them for a series or two.

this thread really is beating a dead horse. This org was never really doing the thing they call tanking. They tried to a little bit at the deadline, and were clearly fine with being in the lottery, if the kids they didn't trade, failed to get wins/ making upgrades necessary.

They are proving in a lot of ways we don't NEED a lottery pick, even though obviously having one is optimal.

You don't have to build through the draft, if you make trades for guys other teams tried rebuilding through the draft with, and I think DA is proving that already right before our eyes.

It would be nice to have 2 long shot lottery tickets losing the play in, and the Wolves losing to somebody else , but thats about all you can wish for outside of seeing us play spoiler in the first round.

I want to be sending the Joker packing and pick 16th if we do win the play in though and in that case it better be a match up against the Wolves in the play in so their pick that we own has a shot at Wemby I'm good with that.

Tankers: What’s the point of winning games? We’re never going to win a title with this core.

Jazz Management: Okay! Im going to fire the HC, trade away the team’s biggest stars, and gut the roster for the 23-24 season.

Tankers: Dammit! Why do we keep winning games?

Jazz Management: Gotcha. Let’s trade away Conley, Vando, and Beasley. That’ll leave this roster without veteran leadership and that’ll appease the Tankers.

Tankers: What’s the point of winning?

Jazz Management: Hmmm. Okay, so we’ll rest up Clarkson, Sexton, and Lauri. They all have minor injuries that we can waste valuable time nursing. Against the Kings, we’ll roll out a roster full of rookies and 10 day contract guys. No way we can beat the #2 team in the west with this roster!

Tankers: BUT WHY DO WE KEEP WINNING!

I mean, short of firing Hardy and benching Ochai and Kessler, what is the Jazz FO supposed to do? Play Gay 40+ mins? Bench Kessler and Start Doka? Trade Kessler to the Suns for a 2050 2nd round pick? Sign and start that one jazz fan who always dances for the camera? Start that one chick in the front row with the big 1980s hair? Is the Dr still alive? Can he play?

Maybe some of you should become Hornet fans or something? They never win especially when they try. We’re trying to tank. Our rookies and scrubs are just too good and our coach isn’t a dumbass.

we were never trying to tank if we are the players on the court. you can suggest the org made every move possible to help facilitate tanking, but real tanking would have been trading away Don and Rudy for scrubs and twice as many draft picks if that were possible.
They got too good of a return for Don to even think about tanking, then add all the picks from the Wolves and the trade assets aquired for getting a key starter again this summer take precedent over some project 19 year old.

Damn this organization for building a solid roster while fleecing the wolves for the next decade. At this rate we might win a few championships in a few years rather than live in the lottery. Dammit!
