Boozer also trying to convince Bulls to pursue Wes Matthews

Hmm...13 mil for Boozer. 5 for Korver. That puts them at around 49 million.

If they sign Matthews to more than the MLE, can the Jazz still match?

They can't offer him more than the MLE per NBA rules. They would be stupid to offer him the full MLE, and Jazz would match anyway. Matthews isn't going anywhere.

That sounds accurate. I read a little about it. Anyone got the link to Larry Coon's CBA faq?

You would match Matthews at the full MLE--something like 5.7 to start?

I'd seriously consider it. Matthews did everything the Jazz asked of him last year and more. He showed a confidence I had not seen out of a rookie since Deron, and showed a complete game. He did this all as an undrafted rookie. He was an MLE player for the Jazz last year and in the playoffs. He's only going to improve, and with get more opportunities to step up. I think Wesley is the real deal and our answer at SG and a better all around player than CJ. Yep I said it. I'd match, because what are the alternatives?

I like Matthews but how good is he really? Is he going to improve?

Didn't you watch any games last year? He's got a complete game and he started out at summer league, and worked his way past Brewer and CJ for the starting SG all as an undrafted ROOKIE. He's only going to get better. Boozer has good reason to be convincing the Bulls to be throwing money at him.

Look, I like Wes. I want him back. But he's a career backup. He doesn't have the size or athleticism to be more than that. But we can differ on that assessment. More importantly, he's played one whole year in the league. Statistically, we don't know what he's going to keep doing. We dont' know his outliers. Normally, when you drop MLE money on a guy, you have some basis to know what he'll produce because the guy has done it over 5 or 6 seasons. The only other reason to pony up is if you know the guy is an athlete and you project him to do better so you take the risk.

Wes is not an athlete. And he's played one year. His per/48's are pretty terrible. At some point, you make a cutoff. We can all disagree where that is, but the feel good story ends when the rubber meets the road on a contract. Just to put it out there, I wouldn't go past 3 years under any circumstance. And I'd be pretty reluctant to accept more than 3 as an average.

hmm. I'm not as certain as you. Which is why I wouldn't want Jazz to overpay. In case this makes it so they don't go get a legitimate CENTER they sorely need.

Full mle? ... let's just wait and see what he's offered.

Wow why all of the Hate on Wes, they guy went form undrafted to guarding Kobe! I say pay the guy, give him a few years. 5.whatever million isn't a greg ostertag contract! Who can predict how much he will or won't improve. He is a 6-5 SG who will be a better defender, shoot better and have a true off season behind him. Bring him back Jazz, bring him back!

Absolutely. He earned a starting spot on a team with a lot of talented wings. I'm surprised to see so many down on one of the brightest spots of last season.

How well did he guard Kobe? And honestly, how well did Wes guard anybody with length? He's just not cut out for that assignment. He's never going to be Bruce Bowen who had legit size. He's a great guy to have, but he's not ever going to be some defensive stopper off the bench. He's flat out not big or athletic enough.

Wes was great for us last year, but it was ONE year. I'd want to see more before I commited any serious money to him.
On the other hand we just lost a 2, so we do need Wes more than ever.

It's a tough call. I can see both sides.

3 for 9 sounds about right for me. 3 at 8 sounds better.
