Backup PG?

I like Ronnie. But another spot we can upgrade is with a backup PG. Do you all think the FO is planning on signing someone to be that guy, or do you think they like Ronnie? He's way too inconsistent for my tastes, and he's usually subpar more often than not. I liked Maynor a lot, but understand why he had to be traded for cap relief.

I'm just hoping we can get someone consistent to back up Deron. Ridnour would be nice. Or a steal in the 2nd round?

I've always liked Luke Rudnour, but I imagine the cost for someone like him to just play 10-12 minutes a game isn't cost effective. I do agree that Ronnie Price is not the answer to the PG spot. I liked Gaines better than Price, maybe let him get some burn and see if he can handle the position?

Dont Worry guys Maynor is still developing and is already better than Price and Gaines, glad we drafted him.....oh wait.......*&#)*^&$#&^$*#&^$#&^!(*&!_*)&$#*@

Price, Maynor or Gaines they are all not good enough. Keep Gaines on the roster let Price go and use mathews, CJ and AK to get the offense started play the passing game when Deron sits. I don't think this team should force inferior players onto the floor just because they are PG's. Any of the three I mentioned could run the offense as effectively as the PG's we had as backups last season.

The team needs a steady, reliable veteran as a backup.

Control the tempo
Hit the occasional three to keep the defence honest
Get the team into its offence
Steadying influence on the road and in the locker room

Similar to Derek Fisher but not not an insufferable tool.

Easier said then done. Almost every team would like one. It's not like they haven't tried (Brevin Knight, Milt Palacio being the most recent examples). I think Gaines is our best option at this point. Price will always be a SG in a PG's body and be limited offensively. Gaines shows some potential to run the offense, IMO.

Anyone who doesn't go into panic mode the last 20 seconds of a quarter and jack up a contested 3 pointer would be an improvement.

Seriously, Jerome Randal. PIT MVP, PAC 10 Player of the year, lightning quick, elite shooter, good assist numbers, understands how to exploit a matchup as best as he can. Lots of poise.

Only drawback is his size. Very similar to Knight there, but this kid can shoot and score and has legs. He'd be a backup, though, and I'm less concerned with him defending another backup PG than I am seeing the unbelievable dropoff everytime hometown heroic spazz checks in for Deron. This is besides that Randal is a tenacious defender has good fundamentals, and has nice lateral quickness (size just will always hurt there).

Unless Price goes as filler in a deal, Price will be on the team. The Jazz should bring in somebody to compete with Gaines for the roster spot, and the competition for who slots 2 and 3 is wide open. I don't see this as a major concern.

I say we pick up Willie Warren in the late first round that Jazz seem to like the combo guards as back up and i think Warren might be pretty decent

From what I hear he's being touted as the 2nd best PG in the draft behind Wall. I doubt he'll be around for our 2nd round pick. If we were able to pick him up I would be very happy.
