2023 NBA Draft Megathread

The guy I'm really high on that I think has the most chance of being a bust is Jarace Walker.

The guy I'm really low on that I think might end up surprising is Nick Smith Jr.
i tend to agree with both of those. but i'm high on walker in the sense that i think you have to take him at 9 - i just feel like he has too much potential, too much going for him to pass on him there, not that i really even like him all that much.

nsj is a natural scorer - he can get his shot better than anybody in the draft. i don't like him because that shot he can get whenever he wants, doesn't go in nearly often enough. and if he's not scoring efficiently he's not doing anything else (though i feel like his defense and defensive potential might be underrated) to help a team. if he can improve his shooting, he can be tough. jamal crawford, jordan clarkson type scorer with perhaps better defense than either of those guys.

For me, I think Walker will be worth a 9th pick for sure, but it seems like he is going to go much higher than that, and if so could be considered a bust over who might get picked behind him.

For NSJ, it just seems like he was so highly regarded out of high school. I don't pay attention to high school at all, and so I've only really seen his college games and a McDonalds All American game. Based off of what I've seen, I just don't see an NBA player, but he's definitely had injury issues and he was also just a freshman, so I could just be really misreading him.

Clarification... I don't think its a bad outcome more a median/average outcome that I think most would think is meh. Its just a more limited player than I would want especially since we have Kessler. Maybe Okongwu without the bad injury luck is a different player than he is now. I think its an outcome where you'd just want more.

For what its worth at summer league there were some low level Hawks FO people sitting with me and they were very chatty. I think the organization is still really high on Okongwu. Take that for what it is as the chattiest guy was real "meh" on Griffin and he had a decent rookie year.

I still think Okongwu was a good pick and only held back by Capela (who I think he’s better than). The safe/median outcome I have in mind for Jarace is Thad Young. Thad isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and has his own fit issues, but he is also one of my favorite players.

I understand the reservations….but he just happens to remind me of lots of players I love and am biased towards so I love Jarace as a prospect.

NSJ is horrid on paper, but I did like him more on film. He has a quickness to his game that could be special. This is the year of an excuse, and he does have an injury excuse.

Not an option at 9 or 16 for me, but at 28 I think he’s interesting. I like him more than JHS.

I don't think Walker will bust, but he may be more of a complementary/connective player than an alpha scorer. He could turn out something like Marcus Morris.
