The thing I like about him is that he doesnt even have to do those things. He has real upside as just a super-star 3&D type. IF he expands it to the next level with shot creation and more secondary playmaking, that would be icing on the cake. He fits a huge position of need and no one in the draft outside of O-Max is anywhere near as good on the perimeter defense w/ his length.

I think those dudes are good enough to run the jazz for a while. Can always get a lead guard with one of our million other future draft picks or in a trade or with our cap space. there are lots of dudes who fit the physical profile of a point guard to pick from. Even in this draft it seems like there is a whole ton of good point guards that will be available at all of the jazz pick positions. Not a ton of good bigs/wings will be available though. I think there is a reason for that.

Fwiw THT: 6.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 19.1 points per 36 on 42% from the field and 29% from 3.

Conley with the jazz: 9 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 13 points per game per 36 on 41% from the field and 36% from 3. Honestly im surprised that his numbers dont look all that good. in fact Dunn looks the best imo, followed by sexton and then THT and conley are close with the edge to conley due to assists (if tht was more efficient then I would put conley dead last.)

Conley with the least amount of scoring, least amount of rebounds, most assists, and 2nd worst efficiency (no one can beat THT in being inefficient). Surprising stuff.

Not gonna do NAW numbers cause he barely played but it seems like he played pretty well for the most part when given a chance.

Hard to factor in defense but I feel like Dunn and THT were known as really good defenders and Sexton busts his but at all times at least. Conley is kind of known as a poor defender from what I can remember (mostly due to his lack of size)

I didn't realize or appreciate how good Kris Dunn was for us last year. Maybe he is the real deal. With Lauri timeline it might be wise to have a point guard that is ready to win now rather than one needing development.
Good size (6 foot 3 205 lbs), in his prime (29 years old), cheap (2.5 million next season), and putting up 18 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field and 47% from three is actually pretty dang awesome imo. Add in really good defense and we just might have a great point guard for the current jazz team on the roster right now. Still be nice to get a promising point guard at 16 to bring along and develop slowly since Dunn is 29 years old but I feel pretty good about him leading the jazz in the next few years.

Black/JHS would give you huge guard playmakers who are both locked in on D and high IQ. Lewis gives you that length/athleticism/shooting combo on the wing.

Either one of Black/JHS would emerge as the better primary handler option, or they both are equals and they share the floor together.

The Jazz need an overall boost to their defense/passing/IQ profile, and Black/JHS would give you a lot of potential growth in that area.

You feel good about betting on a 29 year old w/ 1 year left on his deal because he played a good 20 games during the Wemby tankathon?

Even if he is the real deal and actually has another 4 years of starter level play in the tank, there is no guarantee the Jazz can retain him in the '24 off-season.

I would say getting a guard in this draft is an absolute necessity. The strength of this class is point guards, so it is imperative we grab at least one so we have someone developing.

I get that Taylor isn't a ball in hand guy but its weird to call him low upside. Like... who is a better nba player Jordan Clarkson or Aaron Gordon?

Taylor isn't like PJ Tucker or some **** on offense. He might end up looking like a poor man's Lauri on offense and be a very valuable defensive player. That isn't low upside... that's a reasonable upside. He has ways to expand out and if he is just good at the things he's good at... its still not low upside. I don't get it.
 
Bilal/JHS/GG. That's an interesting draft. If you cut GG, it would be 3 years contract over 5 years. At that spot why not, and it would be something he may need. I think his issues stems around economics and extreme worries around his family. It would be a big deal, but that kind of turnaround could make a good movie. :) Plus JHS is super mature so there is no load on the development staff. Bilal needs some help but I think he is super quick learner. So GG is the one that would need a lot of attention. Yes, let's go all in on upside.

I can see Rudy Gay helping him alot. Even Ryan Smith could spend a lot of time with this kid to help him.

Vecenie had a pod on Bilal today and I thought it hit a lot of the thoughts I have on him. Until the last couple weeks he had a usage similar to Isaac Okoro... he could be awesome or pretty meh... he's the biggest swing in the draft and it really depends on if you believe in his lower league or most recent production. I buy that and think its reasonable... i think there are lots of middle ground outcomes too. Just not quite a bet I would make at 9 but probably not there at 16.

They also talked Ausar and I think that is the guy most likely to slide to #9 of the group of Taylor, Jarace, Ausar.

My Sexton hate has dialed back a decent amount. I think he is pretty good at what he does for what he is. I would be interested to see him as a starting PG to see how he does. IT was a bummer he got injured when he would have had a really easy post-lottery schedule to practice.

All that being said, every single thing we've heard has been Utah wants a PG and does not view Sexton as such.
