2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Wait, is someone thinking Anthony Black is gonna be drafted to be a 3 and D wing? That doesn't make any sense.
Yes, that's what his career will start as, more or less. (Very few wings are actually strict 3&D)

People said the same **** about Dyson Daniels too and I was right about that too

I don't understand why people are struggling with that concept. He can already guard multiple positions and he's 19 his shot will continue to develop.
Yeah, again, it's not a knock. Rookies have a hard time getting on the court and aren't usually ready to be full time PGs from the get go. If you are drafting a 6'7 guard you are going to play him all over the court, on/off the ball. It's not going to be a traditional PG experience and he's not always going to have the ball.

Lol at some of this… if you are drafting Black to throw him in the corner like Josh Green then you probably should go a different direction. No reason not to get the kid reps as a pg when we have no established pgs on the roster really. If that’s the plan pick a different prospect full stop.

When you throw a guy in the corner, or when you get a guy to be 3 and D for that matter, dont you want them to space the floor and knock down threes? Black only attempted 2.6 threes per game in 35 minutes and made them at 30% clip (they were probably wide open too). I mean if im playing against Blacks team then im HOPING that his team has him chillin on the three point line without the ball. I would tell my players to not even guard him. Leave him open out there and hope he shoots it. Beg him to shoot it.

Man I just looked at his stats for the first time and im surpised how poor they are. Played lots of minutes (35 per game) so I expected high assist numbers if nothing else. 3.9 assists is WAY less than I was expecting. 5 rebounds is decent. 70.5% from the free throw line isn't going to cut it. 45% from the field is a little subpar for me. 30% from three isn't good. 3 turnovers per game is bad. 2.1 steals is great though.

From what I can tell looking at stats is that Black is a poor shooter, doesn't get many assists, turns it over too much (basically same amount of turnovers vs assists), is a decent rebounder and good defender with good size. That aint doing it for me. I was shocked by the assist to turnover ratio. I knew he was a poor shooter but thought he would average like 8 or 9 assists and 1-2 turnovers. I was already sour on him but now even more so.

And Dyson Daniels has been thrown out there… they are similar players but NO has Ingram, Zion, CJ, Alvarado and they all play ball in hand… they are in win now mode… we have Dunn and maybe THT… Dustin’s development path is ideally getting reps as a pg… we can give that to black… why wouldn’t we?

To get full context on black you have to go watch a couple few games. You may still hate him but that Arkansas spacing was like the Rubio/Favs/Rudy lineups back in the day times like 5. I worry less about assists and turnovers than shooting.

Also to be fair of me being critical of Black statistically, when I look at my guys stats (Cam) there is nothing impressive at all about any of his stats. At Blacks steal jump out at me. None of Cams stats jump out at me in a positive way. I just love the 6 foot 7, 230 pound quick fast athletic powerful dude with a beautiful stroke profile and love that player type. But his stats either suck or are very unimpressive.

I just always figured that Black was a great point guard in every aspect besides shooting. Then i see an assist to turnover ratio of 4 to 3 and it seems like he is a poor point guard that also cant/wont shoot. (though great defender im sure) I thought he was kinda like ricky rubio but i doubt rubio had such a poor assist to turnover ratio.

Ricky might have in that offense though. Legit think there were a couple/few assists left on the table with no shooters and his bigs dropping the ball… happens with a lot of guys but man that Arkansas offense felt like it was several magnitudes worse. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his assists per minute double in the nba in year 2 or 3. He may be a high turnover guy.

Some version of Giddey is probably the best comp… and Josh has some real rough nights still but is a pretty damn good player. I do have faith in black as a worker… so I think he will realize the best potential player he can be… a bunch of kids are built similarly. I feel good betting on those types.

You didn't watch Green this year
