Dame Time

I think we can do a reasonable trade for Lillard where we still having assets to trade for another star.

Sexton, THT, Sensabaugh, Olynyk, Cavs 25 (unprotected), ours 25 (unprotected), Lakers 27 (top4 protected), ours 29 (top 5 protected, then becomes 30 top 5 protected, then a 2030 second). Get Lillard and Nurkic for backup center, Blazers can still redirect Sexton and Olynyk to the Bucks (or somewhere else) for another assets (maybe Allen and Connaughton for another "lightly tho less lightly than ours 29" protected 1st ?).

We'd still keep George, Hendricks, Kessler and Agbaji of our main younger players. Also Wolves 25, 27 and 29 (top protected), Cavs 27 and 29, ours 26 and 28 picks (we need them to keep the swap rights with cavs and wolves).
That’s way too much to trade for Damian Lillard right now. If he was younger? Sure. Send that much.

But there’s no reason to outbid ourselves. That’s pretty much what kind of haul I’m expecting an offer for Doncic to end up looking like. Jazz don’t want to send out too much now and then get outbid for the real prize when it matters.

Either get him for a reasonable deal, or let someone else overpay like that.

That's for sure a big haul, but one where we would be keeping our best assets (our most valuable picks from Wolves and Cavs deals and higher upside and imediate impact younger players and rookies) and tradeable players/contracts outside of the deal, while lining up a team that could already fight for homecourt advantage (and maybe even make some other smaller free agency aquisitions) with potential for a deep playoff run. If a Doncic level player got available later on we could center a deal around Collins, some other younger rotational pieces and the all of the rest of them higher upside Cavs and Wolves picks.

Also there should be other teams than just the Heat to beat for Dame. His list also included the Nets (many picks and tradeable contracts to offer), Celtics ain't on his list, but can offer up to 3 firsts and other tradeable players. And possibly others, cause he's a baller.

Realistically, the Jazz are probably going to not get Lillard, and they’ll consolidate THT and Olynyk into one player on a slightly longer contract to have more stuff to trade with later.

I’m expecting them to go hard for Doncic or Brown.
Doncic would be ideal. But when/if he becomes available...

Tyler Herro changed his social media from “Miami Heat Guard” for whatever that’s worth.
He’s kinda the key to the deal… if he can get a first somewhere they might pull it off… if not then the Miami offer kinda stinks. I wonder if you routed Herro and Jacquez to Brooklyn if that is good enough for them to send two firsts and Ben Simmons. So Portland gets 4 firsts and Lowry/Simmons for Dame and Nurkic. The Simmons contract sucks obviously but it’s only two years long.

If you’re Portland you’ve got to be absolutely stupid to take the Heats deal over our deal.

No contest.

There is 0 reason to send any of our own picks and they are not more valuable than the unprotected picks we own from the Cavs or Wolves. They are extremely valuable to US because we could still tank, essentially, but they’re not more valuable to other teams.

Also, we don’t need to bid against ourselves. And everyone, we’d have a two-year window most likely so just factor that in.
