Obviously the sample size is smaller for Dunn, but we just can't ignore how well he played. His defense sets him apart, and with his experience, he doesn't make many mistakes or poor reads. The dude is also a pretty good playmaker. I'm sure he trains hard this off-season to get a chance to show what he can do.
Yeah its likely his last chance. Im not holding my breath but I am rooting for him.

Would be good to have a guy of his archtype who could provide defense and offensive stability, even if he ends up being a 2nd unit floor general and a backup to whoever starts.

Here is an interesting stat comparison:

NameMinutesTotal WSWS/48BPMVORPRAPTORWAR
Clarkson19881.7.042-1.40.3-0.52.2
THT13130.8.029-1.60.2-1.31.0
Conley12763.0.113+0.20.7
Sexton11452.5.105-1.30.2-0.61.3
Dunn5681.9.162+2.40.6-0.60.6

Advanced stats absolutely hate Clarkson and THT and love Dunn. Sexton also solid on all but BPM (and VORP, which is derived from BPM).

Remember that Total WS and WAR are cumulative stats. VORP is also partially cumulative since the formula discounts small samples.

Its wild that Dunn got more total WS than Clarkson with that kind of minute difference.
It's not that wild when you consider Dunn is the only player of that group who exclusively played during the easiest part of the season.

You just cant start a guy who shoots such a low volume of 3's when you also start Walker Kessler and John Collins.

Out of his 22 games 10 were against top teams (2x Celtics, 2x Lakers, 2x Kings, Suns, Nuggets, Bucks, Heat).

Dunn also played with worse players. He played 164 minutes with Dok (vs 140 with Kessler and 170 with Markkanen), and the players he played over 200 minutes with were Ochai (262), Tec (233), JTA (222), Jones (213), KO (213).

No one really tries in those games. It's a lot of blowouts and games were the other team isn't trying or even worse actively trying to lose were you can put up stats.

Which of those games were like that though? Nuggets game I remember they played without intensity and even played their starters sparingly and did that against others as well, but some of those like Miami, Suns and Lakers were among the end of season tryhards.

Oh and another point. Almost half of THT minutes came from those games, and while he was able to sweeten his counting stats his advanced stats still ended up as worst of the bunch.... inlucluding having less than half the WS of Dunn.

Yeah, it helped THT too. THT also played when it wasnt like that. But like you said, over half of his minutes were not during that time. So my point remains and you made no point.

And the Lakers game at the end was not try hard. They played like zombies until they had to turn it on to win the game.
