2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Bilal has been so fun to watch over the last couple of seasons. He seems to get better every game and his development is crazy fast. Last year at this time he wasn't good enough to be in the French 1st division. I'm sure he will hit some kind of rookie wall at some point, but I think he will continue to get better and better.

I don't think he can unlock his initiator game until he gets stronger (he gets knocked around too easy) and tightens up his handle, but when he does, look out. He's got a great feel for the game to go along with his crazy length when attacking the basket.

You think he will ever average 20+ PPG?

That's a real small sample(30 attempts so far). His FT% is at 53%(at even fewer attempts). I don't think we can have any strong feelings about his shooting based on those numbers.

BTW the fact that he's not going to the line a ton is not a great indicator so far...

NBA FTs are down across the board. Nothing to read into.

Gun to my head, I think I'd take the under. I think his median-ish outcome is something like OG, and OG has not come close to that....yet. IMO, is 75-80 percentile is probably something like Bridges who has accomplished that, it's certainly within his potential. I don't think he will ever Keldon Johnson his way to 20 PPG, however, unless Poole and Kuz rub off on him too much. It's not really his mentality to force up shots, so if he does, it will likely be as a result of very efficient shooting/scoring rather than a very high volume of usage.

I think the OG comparison might be one of the best I’ve seen yet. You sir love some Bilal but you are also realistic so hats off to you.

I think the free throw thing is a decent point, but I actually think it's a lagging indicator. His free throw attempts are super low, but it's not necessarily because he can't get to the line but that he doesn't attack the basket much. His FTr is .250 which is actually not bad especially considering such a large portion of his shots are spot up threes. I guess what I'm saying is when he does go to the basket he is getting fouled at reasonable rate. It's just a little different from guys that are constantly attacking but can't get to the line. These numbers are all too small to draw to much from anyways, but I do think that if Bilal ever does tighten up the handle and adjust to NBA physicality he will be living at the line.

His low FT attempts are largely a result of his role, but let's also be honest that his role is a result of being very raw atm.
 
Bilal has the physical tools to be an All Star, and he started showing flashes as an 18 y.o. Rather than pouring over the stats from his first 10 games in the league, the keys to look at are his work ethic and his desire to be great. Whether you're looking at guys like Andre Iguodala, Brandon Ingram, Gordon Hayward or Scottie Pippen, you'd never know what kind of offensive players they'd become just by looking at their rookie-year stats.

Regarding the OG comparison, OG doesn't have the handle and body control that Bilal has, and OG isn't great at attacking the rim and finishing. He's mostly a straight-line driver. He's also hasn't added much to his game over the years, and he's never been a guy to give the ball to when his team needs a bucket or to create for others. Bilal can already beat his defender and make a play either with a pass or a finish. If he gets in a situation where the floor is spaced and his team moves the ball, this should become more apparent.

When I said, I just meant that level of player in a simlar-ish mold. I agree that Bilal is different. Even though he is very raw, you can tell that he was a PG most of his life and knows how to play. He's like 40 lbs down from OG though lol.
