*Best athlete*He was the best player on the board. It’s not this hard. It’s a long term bet but you hope they surprise early.

Best athlete who also produced the best stats (played the best).*Best athlete*
Says the guy who probably watched none of these dudes playBest athlete who also produced the best stats (played the best).
Tell me the guys we passed on with better production.Says the guy who probably watched none of these dudes play
Yeah, they watched, knew he was a project, and drafted him because he's a great athlete. He wasnt the best player.Tell me the guys we passed on with better production.
(I bet ainge and zanik watched these guys play btw and came to the same conclusion. They probably don't know ball though)
I'm sure there were other great athletes that didn't produce that they could have drafted. I think they liked the fact that he produced. We will just have to agree to disagree on that.Yeah, they watched, knew he was a project, and drafted him because he's a great athlete. He wasnt the best player.
Im sure you really have no idea what you're talking about because you dont actually follow the draft.I'm sure there were other great athletes that didn't produce that they could have drafted. I think they liked the fact that he produced. We will just have to agree to disagree on that.
I did notice the lack of names you provided btw. I will take the w on this one.
I'm not one of the people who expects a ton out of the rookies. I usually expect them to not be great. But what I expect from a top 10 pick is to at least be getting some playing time and be part of the rotation. Is the SF thing something our coaches or FO has said? Did I miss this? I don't think Hendricks is a 3... and if they drafted him to be a 3 they are in for a rude awakening, IMO.Because the Jazz want him to play SF, not PF or small ball center. He would be infinitely more comfortable in those positions, but the Jazz are going to take the 19 year old and train him to be a mismatch. This is going to be hard for him, but is the right thing to do.
If everything goes as planned Hendricks wouldn't overlap Collins at all.
Additionally, Jazz fans have been spoiled by having a small run of Rookies that killed it their first year with Donovan, Kessler, Keyonte, and to a small extent, Ochai. That isn't how this all normally works. Most of the time it looks more like Lyles and Grayson Allen.
Ya, that's what I figuredIm sure you really have no idea what you're talking about because you dont actually follow the draft.
I'm not going to sit here and play along with your play dumb game. Hendricks was not the best player at 9 and anyone who watched the draft could tell you that. If you want to call him the best prospect or best athlete, sure, that's an opiion that isnt completely invalid, but in no way was he the best player.
It's something Locke has been saying. It's not entirely true, or it's not true in the way you are probably thinking.I'm not one of the people who expects a ton out of the rookies. So what do they want him to be? Floor spreading 4? This would be a waste of his athleticism. The more I'm hearing about their plan about him the less impressed and optimistic I am...It's something Locke has been saying. It's not entirely true, or it's not true in the way you are probably thinking.
They are trying to teach Hendricks to play from perimeter. I dont think they want him doing a lot of ball-handling necessarily, but he isnt involved in constant ball-screens like he was at UCF.
Yeah, I think they want him to be a floor spacing athlete who can defend. I dont know how that is a waste of his athleticim, it's the only thing he has a chance to do at the NBA level. So what do they want him to be? Floor spreading 4? The biggest way to use a big's exceptional athleticism on offense is as a rim roller, cutter and offensive rebounder. You park him in the corner and you lose a lot of that potential.Yeah, I think they want him to be a floor spacing athlete who can defend. He's too soft to play inside and not skilled enough to play with the ball.
I dont think playing from perimeter means he has to sit in the corner. You can cut from the perimeter. The biggest way to use a big's exceptional athleticism on offense is as a rim roller, cutter and offensive rebounder. You park him in the corner and you lose a lot of that potential.
I know we are not drafting him for his rookie year, but still... this is not like he's some late 1st(he's a top 10 pick in what was supposed to be a good draft) and I guess I just expected him to be much more ready and his transition much more straighforward. And it seems like they expected him to struggle(or not be as ready) from the get go... Just weird.
Is Keyonte actually the guy everyone thought Scoot was?
One of the best places to crash from is the corner as well.I dont think playing from perimeter means he has to sit in the corner. You can cut from the perimeter.
I mean I think it’s easy to see what they were going for… get a super role player like an OG Anunoby and it’s quite valuable. I think they likely wanted to take a bigger swing but you take what’s left in the board. There are sometimes those super role players break out and give you more or get so good at the things they do they have like an AS impact.Yeah….you don’t draft rookies for their first year but you do expect some players to be able to contribute quicker than others. You’re not drafting them only to contribute early, but there is an expectation that they are better out the gate and are safer picks.
IMO, Hendricks was a “safe” prospect because while it was very easy to imagine him having some kind of role in the NBA, it was very hard for me to imagine him being much more than that. But hey, this is the 9th pick in the draft so it’s not terrible to have a guy you feel good about being a strong role player. In theory, every team needs what TH could be.
But like you, I am sort of confused as to what the Jazz saw in Hendricks….because it definitely was not what I saw in him.
