What's new

This team stinks

Without a solid, consistent point and shooting guard, this team will never make the playoffs.

he proved to be a good coach last year. he's just chicken **** when it comes to sitting trash *** veterans on the bench.
I don't think he proved to be a good coach last year. We got off to an unexpected hot start but weren't very good after that. He had a bunch of games where his rotations and use of timeouts made zero sense. He lucked into Lauri coming off the Euro tournament playing with all the confidence in the world and taking his game to the next level. We also saw last year he had an unhealthy infatuation with playing Rudy Gay but you did hit on that. For me the biggest concern with him is that young guys are not only not getter better but they are regressing and I think that has to do with coaching. We needed Kessler and Ochai to progress this year and instead we have seen the opposite. The same goes for Sexton and THT. There is something going on with player development that is rotten with this org right now and needs to be remedied. Being bad is one thing but being bad and still not developing young guys is another.

Ochai has definitely progressed. Have you been watching his defense lately? Dude has stepped it up tremendously.

The problem with Ochai is that he is totally inconsistent at offense. Good in defense but is that enough to be a starter?
THT improve but he clearly got some limit. Sexton too.
Kessler is injured too early to see what he can do.

Bur overall we are weak and the team is not balanced. Lots of job to do.

I think Ochai will ultimately be fine. It's tough to judge 3&D players when they're mostly playing with joke point guards.

He progressed so much that Hardy was giving him limited minutes to start the year and made the brilliant decision to bring him back off the bench again yesterday. For the record I do think he has improved but Hardy has done nothing to reward and expedite that growth. In fact I think he has done the opposite with his minutes distribution and lineup choices.

His issue on offense isn't him being inconsistent but rather our offense doing a horrible job of setting him up as a spot up shooter. Ideally he should be getting around 8 spot up looks a game and another 2 or 3 in transition. Instead we get the enjoyment of Clarkson forcing a ton of bad shots with no repercussions.

I agree with you guys. Not having a good PG hurt a lot. We got one ( ask Minny) and we throw him for not much. Now we are in the begining of rebuilding as i dont believe we can attract a star player here. We have to rely at developing young prospects and add probably one or two decent experiences players. Will take time so we have to be patient.

Last year i was having a lot of fun watching the game until let's say the last 15 games. This year, i got bored much faster lol. I'm a fan but i love good basketball with the right balance between offense and defense..

Exactly. It's easy to get frustrated with Ochai "disappearing", but let's face it – he's never been a guy capable of forcing his own offense and there's no reason to think he'll become one. That's not a flaw, it's a feature.

Ochai is the exact type of guy where he gets traded as an afterthought and suddenly starts averaging 16ppg on a steady diet of smart spot up actions. Casual Jazz fans will shake their heads and say "Why didn't he do that here!!?? Booooo!!"

Just three games ago we played pretty well. Being such a new team it's going to take more than a couple of months to gel. I think if we can get Clarkson, Sexton and THT to embrace more of a pass-first mentality the guys will be more likely to give full effort. We need to use up the shot clock. It must be deflating for the guys to watch Clarkson play hero-ball and fail.
